Sorry to hear that james! Being a bike rider myself, but dont have a SWMBO to give me hell about it. You hear all these old farts on hear going on about their 1100 ichypussies!! I ride older slower machines, get most fun out of polishing and riding gently,(well fairly quickly, no point otherwise!) get back on soon as poss! Hope you heal quickly and merry christmas and a happy new year to you.

Re: Bad luck James

I suppose the sympathy at home is a bit thin. Giving up the bikes was more or less part of my marriage vows, thirty years ago, but the cravings still there sometimes.

Hope you can lift a glass but with the ribs gone I'd leave the Ho Ho Ho'ing to someone else.

Of course if your too wrecked to do all them luvverly boat tests, and you need some locums, plenty of us on SB will try to scrape up the enthusiasm.

Good luck and merry xmas.

See you at LIBS

Tom

Have had bikes for 38 years continuously now, and wouldn't part with them. I had NOS fitted to my Bandit 1200 (wifes 40th birthday present to me)but have seen sense and sold the kit on. 208BHp, that was a laugh and a half!
Also have a 1973 RD350 Yamaha which is slower and more fun.
Now, I concur the view that as I approach 50, its time to slow down again (some more), and would like something interesting and pre-war. I rode a 1929 BSA Empire Star which had 2 footbrakes and a hand change, which was interesting, but I fell in love with a 1938 Calthorpe Ivory 350. I didn't buy it, and haven't seen one for sale since.
So, if any forumites have something interesting in their garage, and would like a trade or what have you, let me know.

James, I haven't broken anything falling off bikes for a long time, but my old wounds hurt a lot more in the winter damp these days. Could I suggest you also try the Classic route,as I ride slower and more defensively on something which is almost impossible to get spares for?

Vroom, vroom

Jim

I have a triumph 1971 adventurer, a royal enfield 1969 interceptor and a BSA A65 1970 Hornet and no they are not for sale. I agree go classic!

Get better soon. What is it about sailing that seems to also attract a fair number of Motocyclists and it seems to me also Skiers. Is it that we all love things starting with "S".

Busted ribs

Sorry to hear about this. I well remember a similar incident a few years ago when I lost attention while negotiating, or rather failing to negotiate, a mini roundabout. Down goes the footrest, up goes the back wheel, and I'm sliding on me *rs* to the gutter in hot pursuit of the bike. Stagger to feet, limp across to bike which is lying on its side still running and pissing oil all over the gaff.
Have just got the bike back upright and am marvelling at the new sounds emanating from my right chest when an ambulance drives up with a breathless granny in the back. Mr. Ambulanceman won't let me go until I've signed a form in triplicate absolving him, the NHS and Tony Blair personally of any blame if I should croak having declined a nice ride to hospital with him. The ribs take about 6 weeks to heal. No laughing allowed.

Sympathy James. Haven't ridden or five years or so, but I still hanker for it. Busted ribs not funny. Wish you a speedy recovery and a decent Christmas..

Cheers

Colin

So sorry to hear that James - sounds v painful. Perhaps you could add this to an article at some stage - on the fact that going sailing is much safer than many land-based pastimes [shock] ! Best wishes for a rapid recovery - if you want to play Pollyanna at least you had the accident out of the sailing season.

Just tell swmbo that you've given up on biking, but that your dream of hang gliding has now taken over. You'll be back on the bike in days

Really sorry to hear about the spill James. Was it the horrible greasy roads we have just now? Painful I know but when we get away with it, it's a timely reminder. Everything takes six weeks to fix but a nice ride on a dry day will repay the wait! Feel better.
p.s. we'll watch out for a rather straight backed James at the show?

Bad luck James, hope you're back on the road again soon. Looks like there are more irresponsible bikers than smug gits on the Forum! Brings back memories of this time last year when a hatchback turned left and I was in the way on my little Kwacker, just an impressive set of bruises fortunately. Hope you're not too much worse.

Quelle one pisser. Hope that you will be recovered sufficiently (from the beating SWIMBO is probably giving you ) to make Thursday 13th at LIBS where your presence is almost mandatory! And to think you can't even change hands at 99 now. Happy Christmas. xx

jeezez F kerrist , there was no reason to prove anything, was there ?

hmmm, on day one a snug git has a little go at your leatherette status, and next day you seem intent on proving that you're da man. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
what will you do if anyone would doubt your oilie status ? go singlehanded round the capes in a wayfarer ?

comes with the territory of course.... let the biker that never fell stand up now....so that all others can have a good laugh

SWMBO is not the worst bit, the worst bit is getting back on the bike and driving fearless. get well .
