Reading the latest edition of the RYA member magazine it was very interesting to note that in the egional news section the following:

‘New marinas for west coast boaters…..Ceredigion d Powys council is set spend £20-30 million n two new marina/harbour developments on Wales’ west coast. The new sites in Aberystwyth and Aberaeron are part of a larger project, which has just been approved to bring a £110m growth deal to mid-Wales.’

As an Aberaeron harbour user, member of and a previous Sailing Secretary and Commodore of Aberaeron Yacht Club, so not entirely divorced from knowing what is happening in the harbour it is interesting that the Ceredigion Council have been very reticent to provide the harbour users information on what plans have been approved, whether contracts have been issued or how any changes will affect the current harbour users. In other words they seem to treat us like mushrooms, keeping us in the dark and feeding us on bulls**t.

There was at one point a suggestion that Aberaeron harbour could be modified to a marina construction. and potential marina operators sought, despite the majority opinion that marina would not be a practical proposition for a variety of factors. Again harbour users seem to be left very much in the dark, and only able to listen to rumours rather than facts.

Ne comment upon reading this item was that Putin could learn a lot from Ceredigion Council on how avoid he dissemination of information.

Hmm, who owns the fundus on which the AYC keep boats ? The Hive is too small to generate any return on a marina development.

It might be worth considering turning the YC into a CIC (Community Interest Company) to acquire more leverage in discussions over future developments.
