Thermal Underwear

As an alternative to wearing salopettes (not too user friendly in heads), what clothing arrangement would forumites recommend for cold offshore/ocean wear?

What 'thermal/polartec' type under garment would you wear?

I have a helly hanson one piece, great thing, sailing solo, emphasize, solo, transatlantic I had it on for a couple of weeks, bit ripe when I arrived in kinsale, but never cold. The well designed trap door feature solves the heads prob!

I use Helly Hansen as well (very good under my dinghy sailing drysuit) I use the long sleeve top plus long johns. Also use them for skiing and have always felt warm even on cold and windy days.

Ice Breaker, Merino Wool thermals from New Zealand.
All the usual Helly H stuff etc. is very good but the Ice Breaker stuff is much better and doesn't pong.

ice breakers are the way forward. they are about £100 per set and are available from snow and rock. It was an ideal purchase for my two favorite sports!!!
