I won't go into too much detail at this point or mention which boat I went to look at, all I will say is that we travelled to the South Of France last weekend to look at various boats to find one of them was a complete scam.

After various emails with the broker by midweek I knew this one was a no go so I reported the listing to the yachtmarket.

Within a few hours I had a reply from them , they thanked me for bringing the listing to there attention and immediately de listed the advert pending further enquiries which I presume will be conversation with the seller of this boat.

To date and time the boat is still not listed with them at all. Good luck to the seller and his little scam.

Can you pm me the broker and/or details of the scam.

Currently looking in TYM for boats and don't want to waste my time.

No point the boat has been delisted from the site. The boats make and model isn't what I was looking for at the beginning of my search. The details of the problems are not for the public to air.

Yes, but I assume this is not an isolated scam - or why post the warning?

Also appreciate you may not want to go public, hence the request for a PM. I don't understand why you'd post a warning with no details at all though - it doesn't help others avoid what you have noticed.

If you read my post again I wasn't posting about the said boat as an isolated incident, I was merely posting about the yachtmarket because they have been on the ball relating to the advert, they acted very quickly in removing the advert.
As I said the advert has been removed so no one else will be a victim.

I'm with Whitelighter on this one - if you're going to post about a scam, it's reasonable to provide details of what the actual scam was, and how it was presented, and at what point (and how) you realised it was a scam. Otherwise it's all a bit 'it's my ball'...

Cheers
Jimmy

As I have said its more praise to the yacht market than my own isolated incident relating to the boat I viewed. I don't want to go into further detail at this point thanks.

The least you could do is to explain the scam so some other poor sod does not fall for it.

If you read the post you will see the advert has been removed , no scam to bear as no boat advert to see, no explanation required.

If the deal comes off I will post again about the deal but for now there is no point . Thanks for your interest.

Paul, please correct me if I've got this wrong, but you viewed a boat which was effectively a scam sale, the ad has now been removed but you're still considering buying that boat? That doesn't make sense to me.

There must be a logical explanation and I too don't understand why you can't outline what the scam was just so that others can be on the lookout when buying a secondhand boat. There are enough potential pitfalls already!

The logic behind my post was about the yacht market and there reaction to my contact over the advert, my viewing and the broker involved. I'm exploring other avenues to try and do a deal to buy the boat. The French system of dealing with boat sales to me seems a very effective way of sorting out what could have been a scam, two simple phone calls flagged up irregularities with the boat . From this I obtained a different approach to a possible deal.

Perhaps a third party listing someone else's boat which is already up for sale by the owner?

No need to respond, I understand that you do not want to, or indeed need to comment.

Mike.

So it was "a complete scam", then it "could have been a scam", and now you're possibly proceeding with the purchase anyway?

Anyone else as confused as I am..?

No one's asking you to name the boat, or even the type of boat, but surely you can give us a clue as to what the complete scam/could be a scam/not actually a scam after all, is?

I'm intrigued!
