For those that enjoy our family sailing adventures....

This week we go on the hunt for the WW1 German U-Boat / submarine that is lying in the Medway mud somewhere.

Unfortunately we didnt actually reach it this week but this is the story of our journey into the mud anyway.

Next week, when we have the film finished, I'll post the film of the day in which we did actually reach it!

The Foxwells go sailing! A very nice adventure! Thanks for showing. Is there anything on the web regarding the WW1 sub you were trying to get to?

There are actually two more U boats not that far away from the first one. If you look approx half a mile SW of the first one on the southern side of Damhead creek there are two inline in the creek just to the north of the jetty that crosses the island. They are only uncovered at lw. Used to be visible on Google maps but this has just been updated so not clear.
Found this LW view on Bing maps which shows them clearly, https://www.bing.com/maps/#Y3A9NTEu...LaW5nc25vcnRoJTJDJTIwVW5pdGVkJTIwS2luZ2RvbQ== ,

You need to be in birds eye view which gives a LW aerial photo.

ok so we are catching up.

Here is the film of us actually finding the sub

It was a foggy day, very atmospheric and worth us persevering with. You feel much closer to the history of the thing when you find it in the mud like this.... although ironically we got there a bit to late this time with more water than was ideal

Well done Ian, the best we managed was a couple of phone photos while the boat was dragging herself away at 'anchor' at Stoke buoy!

It's incredible that guys came underwater from Germany in that 100 years ago

Yes, reminded me of Captain Nemo and the Nautilus!

If you're local with littleuns definitely worth a look. My daughter has visited all the local high lights now including 'Sheerness Beach' , which takes a little imagination....and the promise of chips and ice cream!
