A needs must sail back to the Orwell today with children. Strong wind warning given ok. Two reefs in the main and some genoa - no probs until gusts topped NE 40 knots. A steady 23 kn with gusts building into the 30's kn and above for most of the trip
Never had so much water down my neck! a load of Belgian racers left Tollesbury with us once they had cleared the Colne Bar by they were off. Fell a bit like we we the submersibles.
Anyway in one piece tucked up in Suffolk Yacht Harbour Levington for the night as dog needs a walk and the mooring seemed a little harsh after the washing machine ride we've all had.
Glad to be nearly home!
Anyone else's day feeel like this?
Ben

Sounds like a brilliant sail !

And how good is it when you are all tucked up and glowing !

Hoping to start out myself Monday but looks like heavy stuff again.

Overnight

Leaving 2pm tommorow from Millbeach on Blackwater,
Staying overnight, not sure where.
Coming home on Sunday afternoon.
Maybe, Brightlingsea, or Bradwell, might even pick up a mooring over Mersea way for the night, ( try to dodge paying :D ).
Seems like every weekend, blowing like mad with strong gusts..

That is all....

Breezy up the Wallet. Hmm. I expect that Eastcoastbernie will soon report on our trip from Flushing to Shotley on Friday/Saturday. F5-6 with gusts all the way, big cross sea running. We got soaked and knackered - too much for the tillerpilot so handsteering for 18 hours, too rough to cook a decent meal. Very happy to be tucked up in Shotley 0500.

The gusts have some potency that is for sure. You heading longkeeler?

Hi Benw !

Well I was hoping to set off down south to the Medway tomorrow. Weather looks much better.

Unfortunately, a duff molar is giving trouble, and will have to see if I can get it sorted first.

I take my hat off to the sailors on this forum.

Well done to you and the crew. You give the rest of us hope.

If there is something such as the East Coast monthly award I think you should have it for the month of June.

Too rough to cook a decent meal? It was too rough to make a cup of tea for a few hours! Note to self, take hot water in flasks for tea/coffee/cupasoup making next time.

Well done Roger, excellent work on the helm. I need to get on with my laundry now. Never felt sorry for my laundry before, but having spent God knows how many hours in a washing machine during Friday/Saturday I have more than a little sympathy for it today.

Sorry, can't write a full report, I'm waiting for my brain to recover. Drive from Harwich to home was a bit uncomfortable as I seemed to be sitting on a lot of bruises!

When can we go again? :D

Well done Moody Sabre sounds like a longer vsn of our experience and feeling obviously more exposed.
What a week though - crossing to Oostende Fri great sail in 5 gusting 7 then returning Monday in 4-5's and zero vis and to top it all Vomit Alley as my gals have come to know it The Wallet in NE 6 - Gale 8 (40knots for a while) sized gusts head on sea.
I have had my fill of adventures for at least a week - back to school on Tues. Already planning next trip though!

We came the other way down the wallet yesterday - ie wind behind us. Much respect for anyone going the other way...

My, it was windy on Saturday.

Went out Saturday from Millbeach.
Sailed up to Mersea, had enough, then ran to Bradwell and stayed night in marina.
Shot home on Sunday..

PS Had lovely steak in the Green man on Sat night. MMmmmmm :)
Wish i had shares in the pub, as it was packed..

Saturday was a great day, i sailed from the Orwell Bridge out to about Stone Bank & back.
max 29kts of wind, max 8.2kts boat spd all by my little self too.
luckily Peter East had his very large camera ob his boat too so expect some fine shots ;)

Its fine with the wind on the beam, but not so on the nose with 3 kids on board.
