The Truth About Sailing On The Algarve

Re: 2019 Light Dues.

Vila Real is full, cheaper, but only really accessible at slack water for strangers.

Is it still cheaper? Met a guy this summer who had given his berth up he said because of steep price increase after management changes. A quick look on line for 12m berth with electricity & IVA in high season is €33 per night, which I think from memory isn't too far off Ayamonte price.

That's a shame if so, heard similar couple days ago of 'no, no room under 12m' in VRSA. They used to be so friendly and cheap.

Good point, I was going by previous year's prices.
Here are Andalucia's, table 1.4 for Ayamonte, daily rates see section 2.

Remember to add VAT. Looks like they are equal on the daily summer rates.

Re: 2019/20 Light Dues.

Thanks bit of a steep rise on last year.

In addition to checking anchorages, I understand that the police are now trawling around the marinas to enforce this tax.

Do vessels stored ashore also have a liability?
Nowt happening here!

We had papers (passports, SSR & light dues) inspected on the mooring in September and afterwards they headed for the anchorage. According to Lagos Navigators site, the marina office has links to the regulations, maybe Nortada could have a look?. I can't remember whether light dues are payable when ashore, ours run out in December but, unless checked beforehand, won't bother renewing until late spring as usual. They've never commented about the large gaps since expiry.

Has anyone ever paid the circulation tax? That's based on HP and the rolling 6 months starts again every January.

Regular trips to Ayamonte seem to take us out of that?

Re: 2019/20 Light Dues.

Don't think they've found the body yet. Everyone devistated up there.
It was Roelfe if anyone knew him, really nice guy, dutch singlehander, had his boat in Olhao for a while sorting out the engine. So sad. Just coming back from shopping last Thursday and that was that :( RIP.
Stay safe out there everyone.

Yes very sad, hope they find him as most likely family somewhere as well as his friends. A German guy wen't missing off his yacht maybe 7 or 8 years ago south of the bridge and he was never found. I was contacted by his niece about six months after the event, they were still clutching at straws hoping he'd just gone walkabout and out of contact.

Confronted with loads of rumours and horror stories, I started this thread in Nov 2012.

I can't be arsed but if anybody wants to dig back through the 555 messages on this and other threads they will find rumour and hear-say continue to this day but I have yet to actually meet or hear (first hand) anybody who has actually been fined. I have met plenty who have been stopped, had a one sided conversation and even escorted into the nearest harbour (to get light dues) but that is as far as it went.

I can't be arsed but if anybody wants to dig back through the 555 messages on this and other threads they will find evidence of fines.

It would be really nice if somebody would come forward and confirm they have been fined.

Rant over ;)

ps

Whenever possible I completely win the requirements but replacing flares is an on going problem. Discussing it informally with our local authorities, they appreciate the problem and said, “Get it sorted as soon as possible.”

A trip to Ayamar In Ayamonte or Isla Christians could be the easiest answer.

pps Communications on this forum are bloody hopeless this morning?
