If for one reason or another, the sea level rises say by 1 metre - clearly HW will be 1 metre higher - or will it?

What will happen to the level at mid tide and low water?

Discuss.

Not sure it's as easy as it first seems. While CD may simply rise by 1 metre, the pattern of the tides may well change significantly due to changes in the overall shape of the world's oceans caused by the rise (eg, Where's Holland gone???).

Also, there would a be significantly greater amount of water to be "pulled around" by the moon/ sun. This could also have an impact on tide heights/ flows.

However, if the seas all magically rise by 1 metre, the effect on HW in relation to getting over the bar at Chichester will be one of my lesser worries...

the sea level rises say by 1 metre - That generally refers to the mean level. If / when this happens, I think it will be a whole new ball game regarding tide heights, current direction and rate of flow. The only thing that will remain the same is tide times. The only consolation is that the mean level will rise over a period of time, so data will be collected to help predict the changes.

A very interesting question!

Have a look at http://www.pol.ac.uk/ntslf/sadata_tgi_ntslf_v2.php?code=Sheerness&span=1

When the wind blows and effect the tidal heights, very often it is only the HW or low water that it affects. Occasionally you will notice (particularly with big winds and systems dumping water into the North Sea) that it affects the whole tide, but it does not seem to be as much as during HW or LW.

Don't really understand why, but this is a very interesting website to see the effects of weather on tidal heights.

will depend on the reason it rose..........

eg if it rose locally because of a changing relationship between the land mass and the existing global water levels you would have one answer; if the global water levels were increased by a metre you would have another.
