We are arrived at North Fambridge and after a quick offload of kit onto the boat (and the discovery of a lump of sound insulation under the sprayhood, Ta Moodysabre :)) we've adjourned to the pub for drinkies and grub

Sadly, I have to report the installation of a large screen Telly showing the football in the conservatory which in my book is the beginning of the end!

Similar experience - get home to Norfolk to the bosom of my loving family after being at work in Yorkshire all week to be told my dinner is on the top of the cooker and to be quiet as the football is on. Should have gone to the boat!! :D

 I hate football in pubs. Have the menu and prices changed?

Mixed feelings

Agreeing with Brigantia about the tv being the thin end of the wedge..

The place was in a mess.. Roy and Sylvie had not done any painting or maintanance for a very long time.. We had just got used to the dirt and didn't see it. The new people have given it a clean and repainted as well as hiding all the old wiring on the outside that looked messy... I liked the paint job in the conservatory as it lifted the place from somewhere dark and damp...

However a TV screen with soka is the pits... You get a handful of people looking in one direction whilst a voice in the speaker shouts out names interspersed with screams about something called a gole.... All pubs with TV football seem to be mostly empty as it destroys the atmosphere.

I had hoped they would look to do something like the Butt and Oyster with good food and good beer... But what do you expect from an ex football player?

Fail to see the connection between the Butt and Oyster & good food and beer :confused::confused:
Always found the place overpriced and the quality of food & beer underwhelming.

Always found the beer OK but then I have a liking for Adnams, the food is passable in all senses of the word:D but occasionally quiet good.

True .... maby the Butt was not the best possible example, but at least most people know it. More important it does not have crass TV and they have kept it as a pub with food...

OOI.. What is your favourate watering hole on the East Coast?

Maybe this could be a separate thread? :p

Quite fond of the Green Man (Bradwell), though it's been a few years since we've been.
The Ship in Levington not bad either, but again, it's been a while.
Bristol Arms (Shotley) also good quality food without being pretentious.

Always had a good meal & drinks at Fox's. By far our most frequented East Coast watering hole. Been stopping there for years - even when we didn't have a berth there.

The Ramsholt Arms gets my vote. It's worth asking for a steak as sometimes they have them even thought steak isn't on the menu. They know how to cook a steak, but I've always enjoyed all my food there, and the setting is beautiful.

Must say I agree with this one - not bad, just underwhelming. Mind you I don't mind a football match in a bar. Last one I watched was Norwich getting stuffed by Liverpool when I was in Egypt and it was 35deg outside in April :)

I can just about see the attraction of watching a game if you are particularly into that sort of thing and desperate to see it whilst on holiday... But the Ferrybooat is our alternative local and I sooo want to have a civilised place to drink in when we are near the boat..

You can but hope that it's just for the Euros.
Probably not though, it will still feature Premier League games. Then again, the Sky licence for a pub is pretty steep, so maybe not.
TBH you can't blame a publican for trying to get the maximum number of punters in.
These days, they are up against it what with the supermarkets selling beer at lower prices than the pubs can buy it.
