I can't believe it. We get a drop of rain and it's another national disaster. I heard 100,000 fish dead and raw sewage floating along Richmond high St. What a shambells
I'm not worried - it might put the scullers off, and it'll help polish the antifoul when I run down next week to leave the river!
Seriously, we are reaping the benefits of accountancy-led existence now. The slightest thing happens, and all our pared-to-the-bone low cost infrastructure lets us down.
A spokesman said tonight that 'had they not let the sewage and water into the river there would have been sewage in the streets'. Now had that been just Downing street (No 11) I think I could have lived with that. It is about time some UK priorities were shoved up the list.
The London sewage system was a brilliant bit of engineering a 100 or so years back, but it really needs updating to cope with anything but the 'norm'.
