Might mention that for those that missed last nights Pt 1 , the Pt 2 is on ITV2 tonight ; Its the Police investigation into the loss of a young Girls life on the River Thames whilst being taken for a ride in a Speedboat by a fella on a date .

Part 1 detailed the incident report to the Police and the Thames Divion plus other emergency services response to the 'Call' ; from what was first treated as a lone Fella in trouble on his own who hit something in the Dark so the Speedboat floundered , fella needing rescuing to a search for a Woman passenger missing ; a long detailed review , much pressure from Womans Father /Family and much further investigtion brought out facts and details that necessitated the Police to take the matter far more seriously ; so launched a possible Murder investigation .

Might mention that just maybe there are issues in this story that could effect us all when out enjoying a Jolly in a boat ; did we , have we , taken all the necessary safety precautions ?

Especially if you have necked two bottles of wine, they did! i would imagine they may have had a top shelf as well, then went for a blast in the dark, quite normal for an IBM like him.

I found it interesting that the Police picked up that the Life Jackets had not been worn - my guess is that it went against the fella - if not in court , but with the investigating officers ; so do we all wear our LJ when up river or close inshore ? or when having an inexperienced person on-board

Or when specifically setting out to impress said fanciable novice with aquabatics (in the dark)?

I was trying to get into the habit of putting on my LJ as automatically as I put the seat belt on in the car. Jazzcat's a lot less likely to tip me over the side than Jissel, my Snapdragon, but there's always the risk of a moment's brain fade coming alongside, so that's still a good idea, especially on the tender going out to the mooring or coming back, which is when I reckon I'm most at risk of a swim. All the same, with inexperienced people, they WILL be wearing a life jacket. Experienced sailors will wear one if they feel they should or if I tell them to, which will be all the time in any but fairly calm conditions, offshore and at night.
