I need help in settling another dispute, go to megayacht.com (sorry still haven't learnt how to post links) they have one of the first pictures of Wally's attempt at making a powerboat. Proposed speeds of up to 60 knots and all the gadgets everyone could wish for, but my question is simple, is it not the single most hideous yacht you have ever seen? My boss disagrees and counters that most people were taken back by their sailing yachts and these proved very popular, so am I right and if not I would be fascinated to see examples of uglier boats!

Looks fab, imho. Better at 60kts than 0 though.

With radar reflective paint, could be useful in the gulf

Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder

There are more pictures on the Wally web site.

I have seen the brochure (my boss was briefly interested in it but it does not suit their needs- it is basically a 60 knot, 118 foot weekender and they are looking for ocean-crossing range.) and IMO it is not ugly, just different.

My boss' wife is an architect/designer with a taste for modern design (Frank Gehry, who designed the museum in Bilbao and I.M. Pei are/were family friends of theirs) and she quite likes the way the Wallypower 118 looks. It is a bit sinister, a bit military on the outside, and the inside is very modern- the interior is a lot like many of the Wally sailboats, but she thinks it is a breath of fresh air in yacht design.

The entire superstructure is made from tinted glass, and the side bulwarks fold outwards to form teak platforms for watersports etc.

If I were in the market for a Mangusta 108 and had ten million Euros to spend, I'd look hard at the Wally, and I would imagine that is their target owner.

Well I can certainly understand why it's called a Wally, probably designed by the architect who built the tower blocks in the sixties.

Stealth bomber - but without wings

As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of something - an American Stealth Aircraft, but without the wings.

Its scary looking, let alone ugly.

€10 million

is that the price? Thta wd be quite cheap. A mangusta 108 fully loaded with enough radar for your mates and turbines for 55knots is around €13-14m so i think the wally with more power and being bigger will be a snip at €15m or less, but more likely €20m. But readers pls of course beware the first few of course cos they might be a bit manky, yerknow.

Re: €10 million

good idea
you'd need an oil well to keep the bugger going

' Her fuel consumption will be 13 gallons a minute when she is traveling 60 knots.'

13 gallons a minute! WOW, that's enough diesel to last me a season.

Re: 13galls a minute

ah but it'll be 60nm away. I have just worked out that at 30 knots we'd use only 200 gallons for the same distance, which is a great relief.

If you're going to be in Brighton by Monday, shouldn't you have set off a week ago? /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif
