I have a pass system that has evolved over the years it works like this:

Three levels of sailing passes, Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Brownie points can be earned with flowers, housework, "oh, you get off the the shops dear don't worry", etc.. etc..

(One has to be careful to never be seen studying the weather or it can attract the "I know just what you are up to, forget it")

Each has to be earned, varying amounts of brownie points make up to the following:

Bronze: a one night pass, coastal cruising, pack my own bag.
Silver: a two night pass extended cruise, bag packed. *
Gold: only ever issued once, a week away, bag carried down the jetty.. ** Got too cocky and a bollocking was issued upon my return for sending postcards home from Cowes, Lymington, Poole etc,,,

*Pass re-issue dependant on return with booze fags etc..
**, Mobile phone and tagging system must be on at all times..

Anyone else have a system?

The other issue for discussion is:

A, do you tell 'em you're going sailing in good time and be dammed and grumped at for the week before.
Or;
B, Spring it on 'em the day before, and accept the holocaust?

Ian

Hmmmmm.

No passes required, SWMBO studies the weather and nags me!

I get home on a Friday and the sailly bags are packed and the passage plan half completed.

She is even re-upholstering this winter (the boat!) and is a dab hand at anti fouling.

Bless

Or (C)

Make sure they lose the keys to the boat so passes are issued freely as a result of the guilt you lay upon them on a regular basis in thick layers .
Elephants and boat skippers never forget - do they Ian!!!

So you'll be coming out for a spin tomorrow then?

Seriously, planning on being down there lunchtime-ish. Out again Mon or Tues.

Sorry chaps but I cannot afford a divorce, a villa in the south of France, a muscle car and a private airplane but not a divorce!. Seriously (although no one else seems to be). We are involved in the final refit of Shearwater before we depart these shores in August '05. Then 10 year circumnavigation in the warm bits.
Wife doing Yachtmaster in New Year so she needs the practice. She may be looking for crew come June as I am going to Baku for final year to rake in the pennies. Retirement looks good.

Seems I'm quite fortunate. SWMBO keeps an eye on the weather - if forecast good knows we'll be down on the boat and will already be on the phone inviting friends down. She's already helped with the cleaning, polishing and antifouling. /forums/images/icons/blush.gif

So long as I have done the DIY etc... during the week! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
