Imagine this picture - it's a lovely sunny day in St Aubin's bay, Jersey and the tide is coming up to full. In the foreground we have two fiftyish blokes, scruffy as hell, moving their boats from one mooring to another. In the background we have a lifeboat, dressed overall, the States launch, several dozen security men, policemen, men in suits, and the object of all this attention - the Duke and Duchess of Wessex, otherwise known as Edward and Sophie.
So what do these two sad old gits do?(who in normal life would not cross the street to see any variety of Royalty) Yes, they sit on their boats, wearing big grins, waving at Sophie from a distance of about 10 yards, giving all the serious policemen heart attacks. ("Who are these guys? Someone check that boat registration quickly")
And what do I get when they come ashore? - "She smiled at ME! She waved at ME!"
Sad or what?
PS The saddest one of all was Rich (my husband) known on these pages for his crap typing!
