I know this really belongs in the 'restaurant reviews' section but as no-one really looks in there very often, I wanted to stick it here. Hope no-one minds.
Anyway...we went there last night as it was the only place we could get booked into last minute. That in itself made me a bit dubious but we were very pleasantly surprised. We had a lovely meal in there. I had the fillet steak which was cooked to perfection and was so delicious...I'm sorely tempted to go back and order it again right now!!
Really friendly staff who can't do enough to help you. The place itself dates back to the 1650's or so the lady there was saying. Wow! If walls could speak eh?! The only downside was it was quite cold in there (mind you...we were the only ones in there at the time so there was no 'people' warmth.) so if you go...wear a jumper.
Credit where credit's due and this place deserves a bit of positive word of mouth so there you go...it gets our vote and we'll happily return.

:)

Nice place, good ambience, food good and well cooked. Pays to read the menu carefully though. We were there a couple of months back and had fish (halibut IIRC) which came with tomatoes cooked about six different ways and no other veg (wasn't space on the plate even we had any :)). Complete tomato overload and haven't been able to face one since.

Sounds great lisilou
One ponders a question
'as it was the only place we could get booked into last minute'
'we were the only ones in there at the time' (did any more peeps show up?)
'really friendly staff' etc
Well , if they had no one else to be friendly to!
Why do you think everywhere else was full and the Red Duster was not??
Just a thought

Tripadvisor appears to rate it rather well mate... one recent visitor voted it 5 stars and reckons it's souper dooper superb, she clearly knows her onions so must be a cut (and paste) above the rest ;) http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restau...e_Red_Duster-Cowes_Isle_of_Wight_England.html

That was my concern Kwacks and we prepared ourselves for it to be a bit naff tbh. It really was good so I'm gobsmacked it wasn't packed out.
It did start to get busier from about 7 and bless her...the lady was just as friendly to them too.

Edit: That reviewer must've been there the same night Gary. What a small world ;)

check out her TA name too Lisa, I bet she owns a Pug or two, incredibly spooky if she does eh ;) have you seen her reviews of The Boat House and Totties, The red House should thank their lucky stars for looking after you, errm, I mean her ;)

That's quite uncanny. Agree completely with her reviews of the other establishment in fact...I couldn't have put it any better myself. :) :)

That's good to here, as last time we were in there , it was a bit hit and miss, my meal being a miss, but swmbo,s was very good , we were in a large party, and the place was packed, got the Impression that they were unable to cope with the numbers, might give it another try, :)
