Is there a potential Deepthroat out there (look it up) who would be a real sweetie and put online the names of the boats and the criteria for getting on the tupperware list for the flottila.You can PM me if you want .........

Ps.Did a single one of the boats who took the time and trouble to attend the practices get on the list,apart from safety boats etc ?
 
Not sure the names list is out yet ( although i stand to be corrected ) ...

I was talking to someone today who would know and i asked the same thing , and they didn't know yet.
 
Oldgit, I took part in the practices, still cant spell rehearsals, the pictures you posted of your rehearsal, feature my boat, right in front of you. I have been invited to take part, one other member from the Hurlingham yacht club has been invited as well. I have no idea what the criteria was, it can not be ease of mustering, our club pontoon is at the muster point.

Pageant Master’s Briefing Notes as at 19th September 2011

Some snippets that might apply:

Vessels not Eligible to Participate
Motorised vessels that are not licensed and registered with an acknowledged association. These associations provide us with the capacity to revert to a third party for advice in endorsing your application.

We hope to publish the full complement of participating vessels by 1 March 2012.

The Pageant has a limited capacity and is recruiting for a diverse content with international reach. Not all vessels who register will be invited to participate. The Pageant Master reserves the right to select vessels which he deems to be most appropriate for inclusion. He will seek the advice of the Advisory Groups, his consultants and the relevant boat clubs and associations in making his selection.

Couldn't have made it much easier for you - and names are named on Page 18 although no head honcho declared for that group.

• David Beaumont (Dutch Barge Association)
• Edward Burrell (Dutch Barge Association)
• Steven Davies (North Kent Yachting)
• Tony Mason (Ahoy Centre)
• Andrew Phasey (St Pancras Cruising Club)
• Michael Shefras (ATYC)
• Roger Squires (Inland Waterway Association)

Two of the above named gentlemen are the owners of vessels named in the Daily Mail article.....
 
I suppose one of the questions I would like answered is whether or not those that volunteered for, and participated in, the rehearsals were actually made aware of all the selection hoops they would subsequently need to jump through before they agreed to participate. They incurred a significant time and financial commitment in doing so.

2 x Barge clubs. Fair enough.Saw them ..........
1 x Yachting Association.Did anyone see a single yot on the practice,nope or suspect on the day in question cos of the bridges ?
1 x Canal boat club + IWA.....yup saw them to..............
1 x ATYC......... The Thames and the Thames alone.
Who speaks up for the other 99.99999999% of UK boaters ?

To respond to your question,yes it was made very clear that attending the rehearsel was not going to assure you a berth on the actual day !
I did it from emsworth on the south coast knowing full well that i might have to kiss goodbye to the thick end of 2.k....luckily i made in so all's well in my world apart from having to find another 2.k this year :eek:

For fear of starting violence... had an email today from Sir S that implied he is as much in the dark as us. I think it was all out of his hands.

Only those who participated in rehearsals and actually applied for places in the main event know what information they were supplied with so unless they are prepared to share that information the rest of us are in the dark.

Given the small number of places open to 'the tupperware navy' ( are we really happy to be described like that ?) it was inevitable that there would be many rejections. The main issue seems to be that nobody knows WHY they were rejected.

As the recreational sub-group appears to encompass all leisure boaters with the exception of historic and rowing, I do find its composition a little strange:
2 x DBA (why 2 ?),
1 x North Kent Yachting which appears to be an association of just 6 sailing clubs between Greenwich and the Medway
1 x Ahoy centre - a charity based in Deptford providing watersports activities, primarily sailing, for disadvantaged youth and disabled
1 x St Pancras Cruising Club - primarily narrow boats
1 x ATYC which clearly represents the many motor boating clubs on the Thames
1 x IWA which, although primarily perceived as a canals-orientated association does have interest in the Thames.

We also do not know just how much influence this group had, anyway, over actual selection, nor do we know exactly what "Motorised vessels that are not licensed and registered with an acknowledged association. These associations provide us with the capacity to revert to a third party for advice in endorsing your application." means with reference to "vessels not eligible to participate".

Doubt we will ever know the whole story and, lets face it, this was always going to be an event organised by London and the PLA. I'm also quite prepared to believe, as Gavi suggests, that Mr. S is as much in the dark as the rest of us.

I still think we 'Thames above Teddington' boaters should have arranged our own thing at Windsor - or even local 'sail pasts' the length of the non-tidal - rather than get too excited about just 60 boats having a day out in London :D

Nevertheless, I'm sure that those that do go, whether as participants or spectators, will witness something pretty special and it will be a fantastic prelude to the Olympics.

I belive that the reason there are two DBA reps named is because David as chairman of OPLAC was the origional contact and the organistaion as far as the DBA was concerned was passed on to Edward who is actually dealing with it, I assume the Davids name was never removed from the list.
