The perfect family trailer sailer!

Wow. That'll be a bit of a squeeze when sailing. Most small yachts seem to try to make the most of accommodation and don't leave a lot of cockpit space.

To be fair, the Evolution had what I felt was the best compromise of cabin volume against cockpit space for a 22' boat. It would sleep 4 (good friends!) as long as there were three adult sized ones and one small one. The same four could easily fit into the cockpit and the beamy quarter section meant that it still sat reasonably in the water.

There are always exceptions. Using our boat for day sailing we are cockpit concious. At 17ft we get a big cockpit and bugger all cabin really, but the boat is sensitive to trim. If a bigger crew member (and forumite) is on board we tend to get the cockpit drains backing up and flooding the cockpit.

My vote goes to the Etap 22, great little sailor and as long as its not to windy you can get in close with the keel up. Winding it up and down can take some effort however, the big plus for me is that they are unsinkable which is great when you have kids on board and a good one with a decent trailer should be well within your budget.

I know someone who has just gone from an Etap 22i to an Etap 24, the 22 is for sale at @ £10,500 IIRC. It's been trail sailed so it's on a good trailer. From what I remember the boat looks OK too, certainly ready to sail.

I have no interest.
