I see Motor boat and Yachting is stating the broads speed limit is 7 knots..
Apart from the fact all broads speed limits are in MPH.
Through towns , moorings, and environmentally sensitive areas it's 4 mph,
Through less sensitive areas it's 5 mph, through safe areas it's at most 6mph.

The only exception available to everyone is Breydon water where there is no speed limit, BUT you must not disturb other boats with your wash. Broads boats don't have guard rails or gimbles on cookers, nor hand holds inside the boats, you could easily knock over a kettle of hot water over someone .

Similar with our canals here, speed limit is quoted in km/h as speed over ground not through the water.
Our local canal is 8km/h with 5km/h or no wake speed in areas with havens and moored boats, the other criteria is that your wake can be no more than 30cm when it reaches the banks.

You still get the odd nutter out on their wake boats towing skiers in areas with speed restrictions, they can really upset a small canal boat and it's skipper ;)
