The Next Storm

I know conditions were violent,& we cannot see the few seconds leading to it. But it makes one wonder why he allowed the boat to go broadside to that wave in the first place. How was he expecting to get someone out of the water, if he was getting in a situation where the boat was to be rolled 90 degrees. What would he have done with a crew on the deck trying to recover a casualty? All gung ho stuff, & we know that the boat is designed to take it, (Sybarite please note!!) but would the forum be confident with that cox?
He had abandoned any rescue by then according to the Cox & were experienced in dealing with conditions.

He wouldn't have been passed out as coxswain if there was any doubt about his abilities.

I have it on good authority that at the time the video was taken they'd already been stood down from the search, and had been stooging around for a while off the beach, having had a few attempts at landing.
They'd just decided to give up, and go to Eastbourne instead, when that happened.

But it's not a problem, the crew are strapped in, everything important is inversion proofed, and as long as the door is closed the boat will pop back up again.

Previously on this forum it has been suggested that a cheaper alternative to the Shannon launching system might be some kind of travel hoist.

It would be interesting to see how that would have worked out yesterday.

And the forecast for this weekend looks equally grim, probably more so as we managed to get a decent sail in last Saturday.
The best of luck for that. I checked our boat yesterday. The wind had managed to blow a fender that had been hanging down up and onto the side deck, which must have taken some doing.

Interesting to note the Fujiwhara Effect, of the two cyclonic centres rotating about a 'common centre'....

Isn't that akin to the conditions which did for 'Team Philips'?
