The new Prestige 680…. an 'exclusive scoop'!

You should ask for the 100amp glendinning though, not the rather skimpy 60 amp that annoyingly princess put on their 82. ( as an option. Standard spec is coiling up the wire in your hands). Your air con load will be almost 40 amps when running at 105.

I was going to post a reply along the very same lines, before reading this.
And now, I'm not just adding "amen to that", because "biggie" is actually an understatement, in this case.
Based on the pics alone (but I'd be surprised if they wouldn't reflect the real thing rather accurately), "what were they thinking?!?" springs to mind...!
I mean, a bow like that belongs to a 20' Bayliner deck boat, not to a 20+m cruising machine! :eek:
Just curious - and not that it really means a lot - but does anyone know what level of CE certification did they manage to get?

Correct, in theory. But I'd rather not count too much on that, when mooring stern to in a tight space.
As it happens, not later than yesterday a P500S moored on my side, and looking at a boat that rolls like a pig at close to zero speed, every time the helmsman touches the joystick while reversing, that's not my idea of fun.
The 680 might well be different of course, but it's not the first time that I see such behavior, in IPS-driven boats.
And that was in dead calm conditions, btw. I would envisage that with some wind (hence stronger corrections), the roll would have been even worse, to the point of risking to scratch our gunwales in spite of the fenders...!

All that said, there's no doubt that from a price/size standpoint, she's a boat bound to raise a few eyebrows.
And congrats for the upgrade, anyway.
Regardless of my (or any other) criticism, if the boat ticks all your boxes, that's what really matters, at the end of the day! :encouragement:
 
If you look at pic 1 in the opening post there is bit of trad Jeaneau "Caroliner " flare on the Stb bow evident .
But for me ( over and above IPS which you can not see) the deal breaker would be staring at those exposed screws on the rubbing rail .
I have not been on a big Jeaneau ,but there are obviously loads of sub 50 ftrs here in SoF .Dock walking you can see build Q issues / difference s -teak or the veneers being one example .
Beneteau and Toyoya ,s approach of rebranding MCY and Lexus is a better way to go ,to shake off folk like me :o In Benys case relocate the high end to a yard in Italy near Varragio -arguably a boat builders epicentre .,with a skilled workforce .
I would want to see the underwater profile ,know the deadrise etc before setting foot on board .
But as I said it would lose me in the " curb appeal " -ok pontoon appeal with true rubbing rail and teak details before I steped on board .
Fine for a 23'26 40 French family budget weekend boat - but if I was laying out £1M to £ 1.5 M for a 60-70 ftr FB I would rarther end up with a 2-3 y old somthing else eg San Lorenzo 62 or similair -with proper 6 mm Teak laid decks , MAN,s on shafts ,cantilupi lights and much more .
All IMHO .

Thanx for your honest opinion, which of course is entirely valid. But when and if you ever have £1.5m to lay out, you can buy the second hand San Lorenzo with all the qualities that that boat has that appeals to you… and let me buy and enjoy my new 680, with all its faults. I have to say that not much encouragement to post a 'new build thread' after some of what I have read, especially when I am the only one who has actually seen the boat and equally importantly sailed in it!

I have to admit to thinking on the same lines as yourself.

Whether your future boat appeals to people or not I find it rather rude to pick faults with it, yes there's constructive comments that can be of help but then there are some that don't have any positive input, in fact totally the opposite.

I am looking forward to an in build thread, especially the photos.

Enjoy your build and eventually the end product, nothing or no one else matters.

By the way, I just watched this video on the San Lorenzo 62 from MBY from October 2012. OMG… what an ugly boat!!! all IMHO of course :p. But would you really want to buy that above the 680?? BTW...check out the wobbly shelf.

 
Keep your chin up Mark and please do keep the post going. I imagine that there are a lot of forumites who, like me, are very keen to hear how the build and delivery go.
I'm not sure how often you check in or how many posts/threads you read but one does get used to the bedside manner of all the regular contributors.

To be fair, you've gotten off pretty lightly with Just Mapster and Porto dissing the boat, I've read far worse maulings.

You are going to be the proud owner of a 70' motor yacht that most people only dream of owning and I for one respect the amount of time you've spent looking at all the alternatives, the hard work it's taken to be able to afford it and fact that after a couple of years with the brand and hundreds of hours, you're staying with Prestige...that speaks volumes.

So keep the updates coming and don't let the blighters get you down and rest assured, when you need advice and help, you'll find the hardliners are the most helpful, rough with the smooth as they say.

I think the SL is horrid. Fugly for a start, but the way the video ignores the fact that you can't even reach the throttles is hilarious. Then people think my sealine is fugly. Ho hum. Very jealous of your boat.

The SL ref was not specfic and for sure i would never slag off anybodies boat including SL 62 owners .
Seems to have dropped v personal v quickly ?
Indeed if you re read it I did sugest / kinda contradict Map M,s more harsh critique of ( if I understand his post ? ) the seakeeping .All the Jeaneau ,s I've seen out in chop -out perform other stuff inc Sunseekers .

+1 to that. The forum's great for helpful hints and sharing of experience but when it comes down to it, it's your funds and if the boat's right for you that's all that counts. Also looking forward to a build thread here so go to it... Don't let the naysayers put you off this should be a fantastic experience for you and I for one wish you well.

Well, if my previous comments came through as maulings I sincerely apologize, that wasn't the intention.
I'm just used to call a spade a spade, and sometimes I forget that this approach can appear unpolite, particularly in writing and in an open forum... :o

Otoh, actually jfm was the first to raise the point of the bow design, albeit in a more diplomatic/elegant way - unsurprisingly, for those who know both of us! :D
And also with regard to my second comment on the IPS, which wasn't specific to the 680 anyway, I'm pretty sure that several folks around here wouldn't even consider a 20+m f/b with that type of propulsion.

All that said, when I wrote the last line of my previous post, I really meant it.
Btw, also my own boat can be criticized in more ways that one, and for perfectly valid reasons.
If I would make a thread about her, and I would only read positive comments, the only logical conclusion I should draw is that some of them are condescending, because I'm pretty sure that many folks wouldn't touch a boat like mine with a barge pole.
And rightly so, in some respects! :D :D :D
