Following on from a previous item about Narrowboats, the one that arrived in Kilrush about 2 years ago, did indeed cross the Atlantic from Canada.

It had been imported into Canada from England and it's method of propulsion was sail. Two jury masts had been rigged up on her for the duration of the journey but these had been removed when I saw her in Kilrush Marina.

It had been fitted with heavy ballast much like a submarine I was told, (I don't know anything about submarines.) but despite this it had on occasions rolled 180 degrees from one side to the other ! ! All the windows were completely battened down with wood and it would appear to have been covered with black tar.

The 3 lads who came over in her were intending to go on and "tour the European canals with her ! !"

So, not all Canadian stories are "tall" stories ! !

Sorry Kevin, I still don't credit the story. Maybe Kim will confirm it. To me its something out of the Sunday Sport like when they found a London Bus on the moon.

Byron, you ought to say you believe it and what a fantastic achievement. Then they'll want to have a go, and leave you in peace.

I can say this, as an ex narrow boat owner myself. One of the first on the Thames, I was treated as curiosity. No change then, some would say!

It is absolutely true.

A very good friend of mine from university who I see at least once a week (Hi Cozza) has relatives in Canada, his father has been acting as a UK address for the relatives that under took it, I was as dubious as Byron and thought that the description of narrow boat was inaccurate, but no, its a narrow boat!

Barking!
