Following on from a previous item about Narrowboats, the one that arrived in Kilrush about 2 years ago, did indeed cross the Atlantic from Canada.
It had been imported into Canada from England and it's method of propulsion was sail. Two jury masts had been rigged up on her for the duration of the journey but these had been removed when I saw her in Kilrush Marina.
It had been fitted with heavy ballast much like a submarine I was told, (I don't know anything about submarines.) but despite this it had on occasions rolled 180 degrees from one side to the other ! ! All the windows were completely battened down with wood and it would appear to have been covered with black tar.
The 3 lads who came over in her were intending to go on and "tour the European canals with her ! !"
So, not all Canadian stories are "tall" stories ! !
