What do you reckon this to be: Surfury, Atlantic Challenger, Gloriana, let me know

Turbinia was a ship, admittedly current motor boats are the size of older ships but can we stick to motor boats....

A boat for the masses. Fairline Turbo 36 ?
Space,Pace, Grace and build quality.
Not some mega silly expensive one off prototype or vanity project.
Shame about needing to cut little holes everywhere to get at anything important.

I would go in this order Bertram 31, followed by Riva Aquarama, and Italcraft 25 Sarima.

Bertram has to be the first due to the changes it brought to the industry which are still as at today all valid. Deep Vee hull, fiberglass, and so on so forth.
Second was for its status symbolism. But to be fair other dozen builders from Italy (and not only) offered similar design vessels in the era.
The third might be a red herring but in an unknown way it's simple design influenced a certain type of boat later on in the seventies and eighties (see Magnum, Itama, Baia etc etc)

For a individual boat it must surely be Bluebird but as a class I'd have thought something like the Severn class?

That's a connoisseur selection indeed, W. I can't think of any other forumite that might have mentioned the Sarima....! :encouragement:

That said, the reason why I only mentioned the Aquarama is precisely for its "status symbolism", as you called it.
In fact, I read the OP question as meant to nominate the most ...ermm... CELEBRATED boat, not the most innovative, popular, or anything else.
And while I agree on your comments on the Aquarama, in terms of celebration she has been absolutely unique.
There has been no other boat in the history - and probably there will never be - that has been a must for just about all VIPs and celebrities.
Back in those days, anyone with big pockets and a wish to buy the best boat available, did not even waste time considering anything else.
In this respect, Carlo Riva - completely mad as he was as an entrepreneur - was a true genius.
