just finished it again. Spitfire Pilot's account of the Battle of Britain. He was shot down and suffered terrible wounds. Written while on a propaganda tour of the US. He died in another crash a year after the book was published.. aged just 24. Worth a go if you havenet read it already. Author Richard Hillary.

I'd like to know if you enjoy it. I have recommended it to several people since I first read it many years ago and all said they enjoyed it.

I'll report back. Just took delivery of Master Mariner vols 1 & 2 as recommended here. looking forward to getting stuck in.

Really interesting book about the Battle of Britain using research to explore the issues around planes, culture of pilots, tactics, numbers etc.

The Most Dangerous Enemy by Stephen Bungay.

Prepare to have some of your beliefs tested :)

I read it last year and was equally taken with it.. I followed it up with Geoffrey Wellum's book 'First Light' - just incredible..

Have also added the WWI fighter pilots book to my must read list - thanks Poignard

Well Poignard.. I'm stuck in to Master Mariner now and really enjoying it. It's like a series of novellas which was a nice surprise. The detail and period styles makes it intriguing. Thanks for the tip!
