Anyone out there surprised and perhaps annoyed because their insurance company/yacht sales/boatyard insists on addressing envelope//cheques/ letters etc. to only one partner their in a joint ownership?

My husband and I own a boat JOINTLY, and I'm the one who drives the sailing ‘interest’, owned and sailed our original boat singlehanded, and manages the paperwork.

Has anyone else had this experience?

If a Co is sending out mail to joint owners then they should of course address it to the male.
He is of course the senior figure, the breadwinner, the one they recognise as the superior.

Does it really really f..ing matter ?

If so then tell them to send you the gumph.

Im sure hubby couldn't give a ****

sailorgeorgi, welcome to the forums. I agree with you it is wrong that the mailing is only address to one person. Its not just restricted to the marine industry though.

Friends were telling us that they were visiting a prestige car showroom, Mrs need to buy a new car, she used for work and did a lot of miles so regularly replaced said vehicle. Even after explaining EXACTLY what the requirement was and who it was for and why, Mr was stood back just listening, the car sales dork turned to Mr and asked about model preference etc, he was duly redirected to Mrs for answers to the questions. The car sales dork, then AGAIN turned to Mr to ask if HE!!! Would like a test drive!!! Mr in full support of his wife suggested they should leave which they did.

Since you are married, you effectively own everything jointly, whatever it says on the papers.

But why bother about who a letter is adressed to? If a letter comes to you both, do you both open it starting at opposite ends of the envelope? Do you jointly read it at the same time? Course you dont.

I happily let my wife open all our mail. She then re-directs to me the things that only I can deal with (not much). Funnily enough, she getss irritated about that.

Funny things you women.:p

Well, my memory on what I promised in Church is very clear - after all, it was only a month ago! But we BOTH said:

N, I give you this ring
as a sign of our marriage.
With my body I honour you,
all that I am I give to you,
and all that I have I share with you,
within the love of God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

I distinctly remember a lot of other people hearing us say that!

.......My husband and I own a boat JOINTLY......

The thought of it; joint ownership, quite beneath oneself, madam! My husband can own the boat and be master of it all he wants. He will of course cruise in my company when commanded.

SWMBO and I are joint owners and yes for some reason everything arrives with my name on. However, as nearly every single item of correspondence has been a request for money and we don't have a joint bank account, she has never objected strangely enough - come to think of it she may be behind it!

Shame on you, voicing such a patriarchal view in this day and age.
