Latst night, sitting in front of the computer, browsing ybw.....The house shook! Felt like there had been an earthquake. The lights dimmed.

Once the aftermath was over, realised that internet access was down, texted
SWMBO to ask if she could see if anything going on, on internet, or news.
Helicopters flying overhead, searchlights through my windows, obviously
looking for the culprit. Today found this.....less than half a mile away, a
huge explosion..

As we speak, a gang of Glaswegian street urchins, paid the princely bribe of £10, are on their way to Loch Lomond, with instructions to take the bung out of the only sportsboat on the lake! <g>

Re: Didn\'t feel a thing

But we'd rented a video so might have thought it was just another sound effect through the bass boomer.

Stop trying to confuse people with that funny dialect you have up there :)

It's a body of water surrounded by land - it's a lake! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Didn\'t feel a thing

Sitting where I was, you wouldn't mistake it for a noise effect. The house literally moved on the foundations, things fell off shelves etc. It was like being in an earthquake. However, it was very close to me, in a little lane between Hurst and Wokingham less than half a mile away. I doubt houses further away would have felt anything like the same effect, but would have heard the bang, or felt a bit of a bump I guess

In Scotland, the word "loch" is used to describe any large, enclosed expanse of water, including areas coming in from the sea (equivalent to the Norwegian "fjiords"). The word comes from Gaelic.

Its a Bl##dy LOCH, not a Lake.......Got it!!!!!!!!!!!

Lake Lomond has a nice ring to it. I wonder who we need to lobby to get the name changed officially! <g>

Just a small correction here from a Norwegian, living in Scotland .... the correct spelling is "Fjord" and does not have an "i" in it ... and in Norway, this does not cover inland Lakes / Lochs, which are named "innsjø" for the big ones (Like Loch Lomond ... used to live in Glasgow) and "vann" for the smaller ones. would support you in using the word Loch though....

Thanks for that Alf, I honestly didn't know the correct Spelling for Fjord, That sentence was Copied and Pasted from an online Scots Dictionary.
