the glory hole

Put some graph paper on the screen using your photo and using the measurements you gave I put in 7.5ft at 12.5 ft and its a bit too close for me ! Once again thanks.

Nedmin, you say that your boat is 12.5ft wide, I do not doubt this but I doubt that it is 12.5ft wide at the windscreen level, more like 10.5ft I would suggest.

We had a lovely visit to Lincoln last year, with the help of JKay. It's well worth meeting up for a natter.

So much so, we're going to do it again this year... I's got a new Dingy that I want to try out on the drains.

And you'll be more than welcome again just make sure you are there for a Friday night and i'll do my best to get you all pickled this time
The Drains on the Witham are great in a dingy and we do lots of them

Went through at the weekend with an accurately measured air draught of 8'10 on a radar arch which is 7'0" wide and a boat which is 9'6" beam and there was about 6" to spare at 'corners' of arch.

Tried to go through very slowly but current pulls boat to one side and we clattered against the sides, but certainly got a very good audience of onlookers and will try to dress for the occasion next time.

Don't do it in summer if you're shy!

hi i have just purchsed a princess 286 and i would like to know if it will go through the glory hole in lincoln, and then down to the wash as i have not got any experiance on the wash so any advice would be welcome thanks
Holy thread revival Batman!

Did you ever get through? I'm looking to buy a 286 from south coast, but need to get it home to Newark.
As I see it there are 2 possible routes, either via the glory hole from Boston, or from Hull/Grimsby up the Trent.

Boston is preferable as it's considerably shorter & less seatime from sown south.

*Hmmm, now I typed all that, I see the original poster has not been on the forum for 10 years...

A friend had a Princess 286 and it did get through Lincoln and out onto the wash.
I recall the radar had to be removed and the canopy is best removed since I recall it did scrape the canvas under one of the bridges. Probably best to have full water tank and as full as possible fuel tank.
I think it had just the one tank and had petrol engines. If yours has diesels that may help with the extra engine weight.

Humber charts are available to download.

What a strange quote after it has been made clear in an earlier post that is possble in that vessel.
Also consider the large considerable cost of your suggestion.
The journey is possible in the vessel from the aspect of dimensions.

There would be a considerable cost in bringing the boat from the South Coast to Newark on Trent by sea.
Not just fuel but stops on the way for fuel and rest.
The starting point on the South Coast is not stated so the cost and time for the journey is a little uncertain.

Then there is the risk of such a journey in a newly acquired boat which has yet to prove itself reliable.

Would you actually do it in an old boat , one you don’t know and it’s a lot of fuel and time . It’s a long way to the Humber with little safe havens , I think the op would be stupid to take it on.
