We have decided that the 3-5 year old stock of tins needed culling, so we are taking this opportunity to eat some combinations of delicious nutricious tins and packets......

We began on Friday night with Tinned Cassoulet, Tinned Carrots, Tinned Sweetcorn, Tinned Dauphinoise Potatoes and for dessert a packet of Butterscotch Angel Delight. Hmm, yum.

Saturday saw us heading for Dover, but I got lazy, and Mrs FC was not feeling great, so we entered the Port of Pernicious Perfidy, also known as Ramsgate. Imagine our surprise when we found the place stuffed full of forumites - OR4751, Cantata and Tomahawk.
They all toddled off to town for some average fayre, but we stayed onboard and cooked up some tins......

So Saturday saw us with Tinned Haggis, Tinned New potatoes, Tinned Peas. We opened the Tinned Rice Pudding, but were too full to eat it, so we decanted it into a sealed placky container.

Following our failure to hit Dover, we managed to not hit Gravelines, but motored up the coast in sunshine to Nieupoort, where we are today, in the Air Force YC. We supplemented ration with a jar of Sardine and Tomato fish paste for lunch.
Despite having arguably the best restaurant on the North Sea, we only had a beer in the bar, and returned for yet another feast, but having to use up the last of the fresh veg.
We had Tinned Fray Bentos Steak & Ale Pie, with new potatoes and broccoli, followed by the last of the peaches and the remains of the whipping cream that was bordering on out of date.

Today is a boat fixing day, and we need more milk and bread, although we have the thermal cooker for bread, and a tin of Marvel that needs using up. Marvel is not great on Cornflakes though.

Tonight is our night off from tins, so you will see us in the Vierboote restaurant in Air Force YC. But lunch will be based around fresh bread, left over cheese from home, and the Rice Pudding.

Tomorrow, we might not arrive at Breskens, Vlissingen or Roompotsluis. We shall see.

I cannot possible contemplate the awfulness that is 'tinned haggis'! Ye Gods and Little Fishes. The fresh stuff is bad enough and only invented (very successfully I might add) like that that wheezing bladder thing to terrify us.

I can assure the Dear Reader that Tinned Haggis, once cooked in the oven until a nice crisp coat is achieved, and liberally sploshed with Singleton 12yo malt is just the ticket. If you like that sort of thing......

I had restrained myself (in accordance with the required 'spirit' of the ECF) from putting 'who on earth would buy tinned haggis'; I mean you can hear it on Dragons' Den "So you want to tin haggis and sell it in supermarkets? You're mad, that's not a business, I'm out". But I acknowledge the value of cooking it until the taste has been defeated (very very sensible) and then the liberal sluicing of it with a sauce. It does after all, I admit, have calories. I do think you though need to prepare yourself for the onslaught of 'You did what to a single malt?

That'll learn ya....

I blinked when we arrived in Ramsgit and saw OR4751 - nice to meet you at last.
I blinked even more when in came Mr. & Mrs. F-C, well down in the water with their cargo of tins.
Didn't get to meet Tomahawk, sorry, but that was because after nattering with those two we depleted the local Gadds supply in the yacht club then had a splendid curry in one of the restaurants in the terrace below, staggered back to the boat long after dark, imbibed a nightcap and crashed. Up at 0615 next morning to start back to the Swale.
Man, it was cold round the Foreland...
Le vent sur le nez all the way back until the last 4 miles which would have been a close reach....but then it dropped. Completely. At least we had a decent sail the day before.

Shirly its best to keep the Singleton`s in the glass, heave the haggis o/b & drink the Scotch, saves on gas too

I have said it before, but will say it again, haggis (tinned or otherwise)is a culinary practical joke, practised by Scots on foreigners.
Lots of countries have them, France has andouilllette, the scandiwegians have assorted rotten fish dishes, as for the orient they have hundreds.

One of last years highlights was tinned chicken curry accompanied by tinned potatoes, peas and carrots.

It wasn't bad actually :nonchalance:

S'funny, I like andouillette, and rillettes.
You can keep the scandifish and the chinese crows toenails in ants balls batter.

Getting through the Marmite on toast - should have that emptied this week.

So, tonights epicurean festival consists of
Fresh chicken, with:
Packet of dried Vindaloo, Tinned Sag Aloo, Tinned Chana Dahl with Basmati Rice and leftover cucumber made into Raita. Topped off with long life Garlic and Coriander Naan. Enough for 2 meals, so 2 portions into the freezer sectiuon for later on.
To follow we have Tinned Mandarins in (the packet of) Mandarin Jelly, Tinned Carnation Cream.

The restaurant can wait until tomorrow.....

Got some lovely Belgian beer and a bottle of Cahors to slurp it down. Surprisingly, there isn't much red wine left in stock year on year.
