The foodie\'s back!

Hi!

Back safely from the Azores having battled Force 9 Gales. mountainous seas and the good natured (?) banter of fellow Suttlebutters.

Any of you who have been on a longish passage (and I know many of you have) will know the importance mealtimes play in the routine. You spend the first third of the day discussing the evening meal, the next third preparing it, a sixth eating it and another sixth discussing its relative merits.

Also, when you have been on the same tack for seven days in a wind which has never varied more than a few degrees from NW there is very little else to talk about - unless one gets intensly personal about ones fellow crew!

Now I'll go and read the rest of the posts I've missed over the last two weeks - so until next week, Chiao

Mystery 35

JJ, welcome back.

There were a couple of threads discussing the Hunter Mystery while you were away. I, for one, would be interested if you've got anything to add.

Cheers

Re: The foodie\'s back!

Hi James:

I started the AZAB in Act of Defiance but retired 60 miles W of Ushant with a burnt out autohelm control unit so I know what it was like until I retired and I followed the race there after.

It was indeed a tough one with a high percentage of retirements so you did well to finish.
What boat were you on because I can't find you on the list of entrants?

Re: The foodie\'s back!

Hi Richard,

We weren't part of AZAB. I sympathise with those who did the outward leg and had a Force 9 on the nose - at least ours (and it affected the rest of the fleet on the return leg, too) was on the beam. Meridian (cat) flipped south of rhe Isles of Scilly and there was other damage as well.

I had flown to Ponta Delgada to cover the stop-over and to deliver Andrew Bray's Firefly back to Lymington. We took just over eight days - we would have been in Falmouh in under eight days - a remarkable passage and some good meals!

Re: The foodie\'s back!

Hi James:

Yes, I sadly learnt of Roger and Merrideans demise when it appeared on the AZAB website. (I know Roger through Petite Bateaux) I had a call from Ann today asking if I would be interested in the next one. Unfinished business for me so I will try to be there. I will also try to get to the prize giving so maybe see you there.

As a side I think we met on the 95 AZAB.
