The Folly

Stayed at Shepards on Tuesday night, a tad noisy in the NEly but acceptable. £52 for 38ft. Same as Lymington Town Quay.
Have a v good dinner a few yards from the marina entrance in the Duke of York, would deffo recommend it. Lovely service too.
Shepards staff were very helpful as well.
Cowes seemed extremely quiet.

My sailing association has had many rallies at Shepards, enjoying dinner at The Duke Of York. It’s a fantastic place with great food and friendly service. It’s consistently good.

Similarly, as someone else mentioned, The Lifeboat in East Cowes Marina is always a great place to visit. The staff are always on top of everything. Once, we arrived late in the day. As soon as the member of staff learned that we were keen on a roast dinner, he stopped noting the rest of the order and shot off to the kitchen to reserve our roasts before returning to complete our order. Brilliant.

I am afraid I am a bit out of touch living in the colonies but in my youth and young man hood I spent many days at the folly and had a yacht on a mooring. It seems a vast quantity of cash for a night on a mooring but in relation to income is it a lot of money?Certainly in my time in the 1960/70 the cost of a nights mooring was very low and hardlymentionable if I recall.

Our favourite Cowes eatery is The Coast. Sensible cost, by today’s outrageous standards, and decent friendly service. The food is good, and you get enough of it. In the high st pretty much opposite the yacht haven. No irons in the fire here, we just like it.

That's changed then. I had one of my worst ever pub meals there a few years back and haven't returned. It was reminiscent of the sort of thing my father described from 1950's works canteens.

I am sitting in the lovely marina in Roscoff and it costs me the same a a buoy in the Beaulieu. The bay of Morbhian seems to operate asa cartell with all marinas charging the same within about 1-2 euros. Go north or sould and the prices are suddenly 20% cheaper. Cross the channel ans the proces are 20% higher than the Morbihan and 40% more than just about anywhere else in France. Eating our is significantly cheaper than the UK as is alcohol. Some food stuffs are more expensive but most are far cheaper. The UK is prices itself out of existence.

The Europeans ,except the Polish know how to drink either responsibly or not show signs of so the governments don’t need to over taxalchohol to stop irresponsible drinking.
