Thirty kilometers of coast Theoule-sur-Mer in Cannes, 16 ports (one dry) and 8000 rings. 50% of the host vessel capacity in the department of Alpes-Maritimes. That's the profile of sailing in the territory of the countries of Lérins which houses 270 professionals, 1,000 direct jobs for a turnover of 272 ME.

Hence the anxiety of Bernard Brochand who, learning that a European directive threat refuelers, wrote last week to Emmanuel Macron, Minister of Economy and Industry. MP and president of the metropolitan area, is sounding the alarm about the risks to bell "the removal of the exemption of domestic consumption tax on energy products (TICPE) for bunkering fuel yachts ( ...) As for the whole economic chain that lives in the yachting industry. "

MP predicted in his letter "a devastating effect" of the application by the customs of this measure which could happen by 2015. "Larger brokers are preparing to ask their fleet of yachts will achieve more bunkering France, " he says again.

With significant consequences for the French Riviera where, according to figures from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the ME 800 yachting business recorded revenue, in 947 institutions, representing 3,284 jobs. Which, for the only yachting (renting boats 24 meters and over): 1 800 direct jobs, 500 companies and 320 ME sales.

For the head of the ICC, Bernard Kleynhoff, "these economic actors boating will flee our shores like the plague. They will quickly take other habits in more hospitable regions. Turkey soon and already Croatia. "

A problem of the rich?

Of course, yachting is an activity related to luxury professionals agree however indicate that these rich people generate employment. They also denounce, through the voice of Thierry Voisin, President of the European Committee for the professional yachting, unfair competition from other European countries. "In Italy, for example, the state plans to adapt the European directive. Refuelers will continue next year to deliver a tax-free oil. Each country in Europe can adapt European orders to its reality. "

Bernard Kleynhoff also points to elected officials that "their responsibility to decline the EU directives into French law knowledge, conscience and courage. A quick decision is necessary to avoid catastrophe, " he insists.

It's seems only for the big boys who "bunker" ie fuel lorries attending at the quay .
Ave joe who buys at the pumps will not notice -that's me
If it happens reason why I say if is the Yachting industry in the SoF has had some key allies in the various incarnations of French Govenments and these things ( threats ) tend to blow over .
Some one wants something else and is posturing -

Tankering isn't synonymous with tax free fuel. I fill by road tanker that comes to the boat, but for the last few years always buy taxed fuel. Equally, there is a tax free pump at most of the marina fuel stations along the Cote D'Azur. Perhaps not at La Nap, but certainly at Cannes, Antibes, Monaco and others

P'raps they should try a 60/40 split!

That would indeed be an excellent idea. And knowing the French the 40 and the 60 would be the other way round. Trouble is it's too simple. They like to argue. They want business class trips to Paris where they can scoff and argue and do all the jiggering around where they lift the shoulders up beyond their ears and bend their elbows with palms up. They will fix this one way or another. They will not lose the leadership position that they see as held by the cote d'azur in European yachting.

Is there something fundamentally different about this issue when compared to VAT on charters? As you know, the French authorities resisted that as well, but ultimately complied with the EU directive (under threat of legal action) despite the risk to the charter industry and it's wider dependants.

As somebody who is currently paying €1.70-1.80 in Italy, I have no sympathy whatsoever;) As with all things EU, the EU always wins and the French govt will eventually roll over just like the UK govt will over the 60/40 split. In any case, a full tax price of €1.30-1.40 puts France on a par with Spain and still lower than Italy so I don't know where this exodus of boats is going to go anyway. Perhaps Monsieur Brochand should look to other factors holding back the SoF yachting industry such as lack of berths and stupidly high taxi fares

yes, would also be interested to know,
does anybody know if all the charter boats in SOF apply the VAT to each charter contract ?
what rate 9% or 19%?
also the ones that don't work with a agency (such as BWA) to do the administration for them
or is there still a "transition" period ?

and how about VAT on A.P.A. (provisions) ?

they are wrong on that about Croatia,
Croatia doesn't allow tax exemption for fuel for charter boats, they never did
actually it has never been allowed to do charters in Croatia unless you have a Croatian company.
only recently, since they joined EU, they do allow chartering in the country from a foreign charter co if you register and pay VAT in Croatia on the charter contract
they surprisingly quickly organised and installed a online solution for that, in line with the european directives that SOF and Italy is struggling with.

there is a solution to navigate with tax free fuel in that area, when you bunker in Montenegro and then immediately leave the country and cross the border in to another country fe Croatia which is next door.
Exactly the same system like a taks free shop in an airport,
and this is also applicable for private pleasure yachts.

yes, and competent and reliable yards and service co's.
they mention about the number of jobs in the yachting business, but nothing about the poor service they offer

nevertheless I've alway's liked SOF, the athmosphere and le joy de vivre... :)

Yes we enjoyed our one season in SoF but that enjoyment was tempered a bit by every taxi fare being €100 and every visit by an engineer, however short, costing €1000 and that was in 2003 when the Pound Sterling was worth something;)

Sanremo!!
Great quality service and great staff. Not too far from you Jimmy- we are planning to have our services done there in the near future.

It'll be about 650 miles from where I am in a couple of days time. But I'll be back next summer, prob around the same sort of time that you're planning to arrive with your new boat.

Since when was San Remo located in SoF? At €1.25 Sterling is still way below what it was pre 2008
