This event will be known as the ECF/PBO Lively Discussion. The ECFP'BOLD (as in ECF "Peebold") for short.

Bradwell marina will be the base.

For those not based there, a sail down the wallet may be required (ahem).

It will be a two part event.

PART ONE
.... will be a journey starting westbound from the west end of Bradwell Baffle, rounding Thirslet (2nm eastish of Osea), then rounding Bench Head (entrance to Brightlingsea /west of Colne bar), thence to Bradwell Baffle west, a total distance of some 14nm or thereabouts.

The date has yet to be set, however it is proposed that several weeks before the event takes place, that a post be placed on the PBO forum requesting the YBW wider assembly to, and in a manner strictly according to the ECF ethos, rate each vessel taking part.

Vessels will be started from Bradwell baffle at such times to enable the ratings to have the desired effect, giving all vessels the opportunity to "win". However .............

PART TWO
There will be no single winner as such. In fact it is hereby propoosed that whoever crosses the line first buys the first round in the Green Man and that any further gloating be followed swiftly by a further liquid donation. At the end of said event, each vessel skipper will have to present to the group reasons why said vessel didn't actually cross the line first, and also reveal to the group reasons why other vessels may have achieved a better result than reasonably expected. The scope for lively discussion is evident.

The proposal is clearly in its early stages. Further thoughts :

- All vessels welcome. Event to be engineless (tho Mobo's not excluded - dont ask yet how that might work though), oars allowed.
- Non journey/racing vessels will be required at the start line/thirslet and bench head to ensure no attempt to (ahem) shorten the journey takes place. Volunteers for such positions welcome.
- Start say 11am after breakfast, finish by 4pm (wind dependent), BBQ at Marina Bar say 5pm (I'm sure Mick would be happy to oblige), Green Man for "Lively Discussion" say 8pm ???
- Depending on numbers, start/finish arrangements may have to change ??

This is all Roger's fault by the way, and as such, and as I am proposing said event, it is hereby proposed that Roger and I organise it.

Your thoughts .............

I spent last night poking holes in my main and genoa, bolting shaggy carpet to the keel , and attaching a bucket and lanyard to the rudder. Thus prepared, Full Circle is declared an entrant.

Alan/Roger, do be careful about tidal gates..........

That sounds a real hoot. We'd love to join in if we may.

Our boat's been out of the water since last May due to ill health and happenstance, and we can barely remember how to sail, so no risk of us being first over the line unless it's drifting back over it immediately after starting.

We're hoping to get her bottom wet again soon, so if we can remember which strings to pull and what to do with that stick at the back, we'll trundle down the Wallet at the allotted time if we can.

Give us a chance - I didn't know about any of this until yesterday!

I'm not back from Dutch waters until mid-July.

(thinking out loud : We'll need a HW around 0800/2000 or a bit later so peeps with proper keels :p can get into Bradwell for the evening and out in the morning. 4th September?) Need to speak to CPD.

We'll get back to you.

The following are proposed :

Saturday 24th July.
- HW Bradwell 1149 4.3m (looks fairly neapy)
- Start 1000hrs from Bradwell Baffle heading west.
- Round the red at Hilly Pool Point off Northey Island (where the river does a left along Colliers End on the way to Maldon)
- Back to Bradwell baffle.
- 14nm ish.
- The rating system will be so good that we will all be back by 1500, enough depth for all to get back into Bradwell.

I am away first 2 weeks of August.

Saturday 21st August
- HW Bradwell 1035 3.99m
- Possibly same as above less an hour ?

Thoughts ??

Maybe your organisers should speak, or at least I should have read Rogers post fully before posting above .........

Saturday 4th September
- HW Bradwell 0828 4.1m
- Starting say 1000 would enable plan A to be followed with a push into the tide (possibly) on the last leg.

I guess the important thing at the mo is the date, as each could be made to work. So :

24th July
21st August
4th September

?????????????????????
