\' The Dreaded Bug\' Update.

Following on from my post on the 24th August,
I treated both tanks with the advised dosage of Soltron (b---dy expensive stuff), and ran the boat around for a couple of hours, then left it for a week and gave it another hour. No difference in performance but did notice a slight smoke (blue/grey) from both engines. This week i changed the metal filter bowls to the glass ones, I ache in muscles and joints I never knew I had after crawling around in the Lazzerette and bilges all morning, why are these essential items so inaccessable? Bleeding French !!!
I digress! The fuel that i drained off was very dark and contained grey thread like matter and the filters were black, this after only 3 hours running, the previous filters having completed 65 hours were clean but the filter bowls were full of this grey matter.
Question !
Is the Soltron working? Is this what i should be expecting, Should i be thinking of having the tanks drained and cleaned, how long should i wait before i can be confident of a cure, how will i know a cure has been effected?

Re: \' The Dreaded Bug\' Update.

I had a very bad case of the bug and had to change my filters every 150 miles on three occasions - the Soltron had gone in but the fuel had been there for years. After 3 filter changes the bug had gone and the filters are now clean 18 months laters with lots of boa use in the meantime.

So my experience is that it can take a while in a really bad case for the Soltron to react but eventually your fuel will be as clean as a whistle.

Re: \' The Dreaded Bug\' Update.

It makes me wonder if we are both buying fuel from the same fuel pontoon in Plymouth?? I've had a bad problem with bug in just one tank all year. Soltron whilst it has got rid of bugs very quickly other years seems to be struggling with this new breed. You eed to think in terms of 5-10 hours running before you see much difference in smoke or extra power. Course you aint going to see any extra power less you lost some because of mucky fuel lines or ingectors. Soltron wont make it better than OK will it..../forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Soltron has started to lift all the crap that has "glued" itself to the bottom of the tank. Do second double dose to make sure this breaks up as quickly as possible and just keep monitoring it untill it totally disappears.

Soltron is much much cheaper than calling Express lube at over £450 + VAT each time. That amount will keep you in Soltron for years.

break down the cost by dividing cost of Soltron into 5000 ten it works out not so bad after all.
