how would one dispose of the liquid

how long would the smell linger

is the engine worth anything at all

how would one dispose of the liquid

Well, it's standing on its keels, so you've got a couple of feet of head. More if you can dangle the end of the hose down some drain or gulley. Start it siphoning then go and get a cuppa and it'll be done in no time.

how long would the smell linger

No idea. If it becomes a problem, just put another tin of curry on :)

(Being serious, I doubt you want anything permeable that's been under it (cushions etc) so the remaining stuff should be basically all GRP and cleanable.)

I was re-reading the Mollymawks' book the other day. They bought their engine for £150 after it had been at the bottom of a harbour for many months while people argued over who had the right to salvage it. In fact Nick resurrected it and they're still using it today.

As to the smell, once the oil, diesel etc. has soaked into the wood there is IMHO almost no way to get rid of it, on my current boat during the refit I had to dispose of the entire galley and nav station wood work and replace with new.
I would also be concerned with the condition of any structural wood work with that amount of water inside.

You say '' However, the good thing is that I know it does not leak – so there is a good chance that the keels are fairly well attached '' but how can you be sure?

I'd imagine several tons of boat, engine and water sitting on the keel/hull joint to be self-sealing.

I don't understand. I've been onboard your boat and it is a nice solid well maintained vessel. You have a belief that this thing will serve you better round the top of Scotland? It certainly has comedy value.

Well, first thing I'd do is let some other dreamer buy it.
I'd then give him 6 months to drain the goop out, strip the engine out, strip out rotting timber, strip out dodgy electrics etc
I'd then contact the new owner and offer him what he paid for it hoping he was by now scared of the massive restoration now facing him so I'd have a blank canvas to work with.

Seriously Dylan, Ana Sira needs a dreamer who's cash rich and time rich..

all things considered

all candidate boats considered

four adults and a lab

Katie L would burst at the seams

as for this one if it went for £500

pressure washer inside and out

replace upholstery with foam rubber covered with fleece

scatter cushions

Origo from Katie L

battery nav lights

some paint

replace standing rigging where necessary

as long as the keels are okay I am in business

having said that.... there are better boats out there with jiggered engines

yours....

Optimistic Ollie

The yard fees are £200 / metre / year and it has £9,000 of debt on it. It must have been there years.

five years standing as I understand

so the sails have been out that long

no idea when some-one opened the hatch

I do not know how long the water has been standing in it

ebay will let us know its real value

my guess is that it will go for the scrap price to a bloke who will scrap it

Does a centaur have any scrap value?

You'll get a few quid for the keels and the engine, and the mast and boom come to that. But then you're left with a ton or so of contaminated polyester that nobody wants, and you're going to have to pay to dispose of it.

Roger Bull the worlds most authoritative Centaur anatomist worked out the scrap value

stainless steel, steel, aluminium

Roger said that the value of the metals more than covered the cost of disposing of the GRP and left you up a couple of hundred

the keels are worth £400

the mast - maybe £50

stainless bits... £20

I can volunteer to go and have a look at it if you really are interested. It isn't exactly on my doorstep but I will be not too far away before the end of January.

cheers Vyv

Searush is up there I believe and Steve has a boat up there

I am hoping that some-one wll take some more snaps

it is a bit of a frightener of a boat

I hate to think of that water sitting there
