The curse of the personal message on YBW?

There are some good reasons to use a PM rather than post on the open forum, e.g. you want to give someone your email address.

I posted for a short while on a multihull forum. I made contact with someone who was building the same model of boat as me and wanted to PM him. As there was no PM facility I asked the owner of the site to pass my email address to the other guy. His response was 'anything you have to say can be said on the forum' - presumably wanting to up the traffic levels. I replied that (a) details of a specific design would be of no interest to anyone else and (b) I wanted to pass on info which was the copyright of the designer for which the two of us had paid. The response - I was banned!!

He was the reason I stopped posting there.

Trying to explain things without diagrams can be impossible. Since the dawn of man we have used pictures to help the words. The speed at which the email would arrive explaining why he has doctored your last message was frightening. I know a few people who had so much to give that forum who left in a rage. One guy who taught me a lot about multihull technicalities from Jockland used to spend a lot of time helping people could not stomach it.

His opinion of forums was so jaded by this, my repeated efforts to get him to join this one fell on deaf ears, a loss in my opinion. He still posts regularly to uk.rec.sailing.

The guy is control freak who wants to be some kind of mother figure to all his members. Like someone who posts here actually!
