The Cowes Classic Powerboat Rally 2012

Looks good Ben.

Need to find out when the hull design for the Hunton was done. The 37 is based on the original 39 cruiser hull which i believe was around 1988 / 89 and then shortened and lengthened for the 34, 36 and current 37.

Maybe ineed a few more years before the Hunton is recognised as a classic in the eyes of the majority!

Keep in touch if you need any help.

Hi there Ben. It was great to meet you and say hello last year whilst we were acting as medical safety boat for the Cowes Torquay. Your gathering looked fantastic both in the Yacht haven and out as sea, you obviously did something because the winner of the race was an old snotter as well :)

Seriously, hope it all goes well and if anyone has a boat which would be eligible and didn't go last year I would urge you to keep a space in your diary for this year. We are sadly about 30 or 40 years too new!

Henry :)

Hi Howard, yes afraid the Hunton is probably still a bit new [and posh] but you and anyone else are very welcome to come along and say Hi.

More importantly are you still up for camera boat duties?

Paul.

Don't suppose anyone has a Helo we can borrow?

Paul,

Assuming everything goes to plan, of course, still up for camera duties.

Cant help with the Helio but i will have a think. i remember seeing somewhere some footage of a rib on the solent taken from a microlight type thing, was well done for sure. given its the Cowes Torquay event i wouldnt mind betting one of the VERY good Powerboat photographers will be up on the cliffs at the Needles. if they have a decent Zoom they should be able to get something reasonable?

Worth trying some of the local flying clubs to see if anyone is interested in helping?

I am sure the CTC boys will have the usual team up in the air but im guessing they pay big money for this and understandably, they have duty to cover their race.

Thank you Henry- very kind !!!

A good bunch, happy to have a natter and talk over the boat, I suspect the final finishing times didn't truly reflect the difference in race pace from chatting afterwards.

Either way another one for the record books.

Henry :)

The thing is with Marathon racing is that it really is endurance. The old adage: To finish first, first you have to finish. LAst year we had a 100% finishing record, even though wehad a few issues in some of the races. Many boats drop out.
This years Round Britain in June wil be interesting as it goes around the top of Scotland instead of the Caledonian Canal. After the 10 days I Am sure that we will be well and truly knackered !

From memory, there was a Hunton 34 racing in Production Class 1 around 1989-1991 run by the Raven brothers out of Hayling Island.

Paul.

This does now mean I have got to finish installing my new engine soon in order to allow plenty of time for testing.

Only just stumbled back on this! yup, Raven Estates was a 34 i believe that raced and changed names several times!

i did have a list of the old Huntons that raced but can't place my hands on it right now.

hope plans for this classic rally are coming along, Ben, hows the refit??

Pretty much all the plans for this rally are now in place and the entry invites went out a while ago.

Refit coming along well, one or two minor set backs, I was hoping to be back afloat and running on 24th this month but that is looking doubtful. Should be ready long before the rally.
