Let's forget about all this crap about tools and spares, let's consider the important issues. So what do you have as totally necessary liquid refreshments on board.

Most of you doubtless have a huge drinks cabinet whereas I have a fridge, a few lockers and a pile of cans that I have to negotiate to get into the galley.

So my essential supplies would be several cases of beer/lager, as many bottles of assorted wine as i can stow and at the moment 2 bottles of gin (+ tonic and lemons etc) and possibly a few cans of cider for a diving buddy.

Now that lot would possibly last for a weekend or two, depending on who I happen to bump into, but I do like to be reasonably self sufficient in the booze department, hate to be caught out by not being able to get ashore.

From what I have seen of fellow boaters my stocks are relatively conservative. So what goodies do you normally carry? (And please no sanctimonious twaddle about not drinking and boating, this is meant to be light hearted).

I'm a teetotaller, and find your posting offensive to say the least. They are bringing in laws to breathalise you reprobates, even while at anchor, or in harbour or marina, and a good thing too!

Bottled Water
Grape Juice (Organic)
Grapefruit Juice (Organic)...

- Whoops, will start again, thought for a mo' was posting to my mates on the "Save the Tuatara" forum...

Similarly Conservative

Several doz cans of beer, and dare I say it !!!Boxes!!! of wine, but usually just me who drinks wine and a bottle is a bit much, but there again everyone says I have no taste in anything (except for boats).

Used to stock up with spirits everytime went through duty free but these days seem to prefer to spend the money on a good book instead. Ummm, "These days", might mean am getting towards my twilight - yikes where's the rum!

I thought that "Utinam logica falsa tuam philisophiam totam suffodiant " loosely translated to "I am usually soused and if not I have a hangover"?

I was your latin teacher - Remember, now. And I see your latin is still not as it should be as "philisophiam" => "philosophiam". Tut, tut.

Now come out from under the covers and tell us what is in your liquor locker (and how you stop the bottles breaking at the speeds you go at) and also whats in your music cabinet (Jim Reeves I expect).

Vinum et musica laetificant cor [drunk], whoops that smiley is not hooked up yet.

half frozen cans and half unfrozen cans in a cool box, will stay cool for 4 days that way, unless the forum locusts descend. Boat doesn't run to a liquor store, that's Duncan's job! Prefer good red wine, but don't take that on the boat often

Who the flippin heck is Jim Reeves??? I've got everything from medieval music (eg Abbess Hildegard) through classical, through 60. 70 & 80's stuff, to contemporary, with just about everything inbetween, including Jazz and Blues, pretty eclectic really, but no Jim Reeves!)

"Wine and music make the heart merry" - Asterix fan? alternatively vinum bonum laetificat cor hominis

G'day John,

I only have some Bundy rum... and some more, and a spare just in case, Also a box of Shatto Cardboard and a couple of bottles of plonk in case a class act steps aboard. The only other item in the locker is 2 packs of Boroccas. Of course I never touch the stuff myself (you should believe 'everything' you read on the internet).

Avagoodweekend....

Er, I have to admit to a major faux pas last season. Went to the local supermarche and bought loads of cases of what I thought was Kronenbourg beer. In fact, I filled most of the available bilge space with this stuff
Opened a bottle to celebrate having lugged all these boxes onto the boat in the heat of the Med sun, swallowed some and promptly spat it out. It was shandy! I'd bought about 150 bottles of bloody lager shandy. Being a stupid Brit, I had not noticed the word Panache on the bottle which apparently means shandy
Needless to say, every guest that came on board last season was offered a bottle and told how positively refreshing it was. Yuk
Otherwise, the one thing I never run out of is a good malt whisky. One of my great boating pleasures is to sit in the cockpit late at night with a glass of good whisky and a cigar reflecting on how good life can be

LOL

Always thort you were really a shandy man at heart.

Also made a purchasing mistake in Cherbourg a few years ago, thort I'd bort a case of theakstons or something similar, nice easy drinking at about 3.8%, axshully a case of some Belgian lager at about 8.5%! Soon became known as headbanger.

Shandy, yep nothing like sitting in the cockpit with a hamlet special and a can of shandy!

A quick check on stock last week was

Woods - nearly a full litre
Mountgay - one full / one half full
Lemon Hart - threequarters
Bacardi Gold - full
Trinidad (10 year cask) - nearly full
A Martinique golden (10 year) - bottle
Lime/sugar syrup/triple sec pre mix - 2 bottles
1 can Stella
3 Bottles Lucosade Isotonic Orange

This is left over from last season (and the odd fishing trip) and clearly I need to restock before Weymouth at Easter.

Hi again Old Salt Oz

How does the Bundy rum compare to the real stuff taste wise? See it every time I fly across in the duty free but people tell me it is only good for mixing. But am not convinced - what is it like straight?

Regards

John

About time we had a sensible posting on this forum...was getting a bit PBOish for a while there.

My list:

Beer (obviously)
Vodka (Stollie)
Red Bull
Wine boxes (no point in having decent wine on board...boats are not a good enviroment for storing Premier Cru clarets)
Single malt highland whiskey (The Macallan)
Bourbon (Maker's Mark)
Calvados (to go on the chocoloate icecream in the fridge)
OJ (gallons, for breakfast)
