Thanks for your comment Mirelle..
But could you tell me the limit between Advertisement and Information?
I think this part of the forum is to talk about "books" and this is exactly what I have done.. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Is this an unbiased account?

[/ QUOTE ]
Well why not.. and thus for many reasons:
- 1° neither my co-authors and my editor would have permit me to write "biased" comments
-2° As a designer of some sucessful anchors, I should have some general knowledge on the subject, but as I don´t have anymore FINANCIAL, COMMERCIAL, MARKETING, ETC.. interest with any anchor manufacturer.. there is no reason for me to be "Biased".. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I am confused. I wish YBW would sort itself out. A post from someone offering a half share in their boat is pulled but this one is allowed.

Can we please have some consistency?

I think the question is not who wrote the book.. but who will earn the money from it??

And if you consider the "fortune" you receive from the publisher, as an author.. it is NOT advertising..

I'm not selling the book. I gave the adress of Amazone as it is a very well known library.. but the book would also be available in other marine book stores.

Please also consider that on a Nautical forum, presenting a book talking about one of the most important sailing technique is INFORMATION..

I'm really convinced that, with your great experience, you don't need to read such a book.. but you should think that they are also on the forum, sailors with less experience and they could be happy to read such an information.. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Is blatant advertising in my view.

I wonder when the "The Even More Complete Anchoring Handbook" will come out and who will write it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Smells like advert, looks like advert, tastes like advert, gues you might be right about this being an advert.
OK Guys and Gals, your emminent old Wombat has the answer to all your problems. This is all at great personal sacrifice to myself, any talk of self interest on my part will be dismissed with the contempt it deserves. Ergo...
Alain,
All you need to do is send me a review copy of your book, old buddy , old mate ! I'll then review it for the Book Club. No commercial interest or involvement, we all get to find out if the thing is worth the paper it's written on and most importantly someone (and this is the really good bit, you are going to love this I can tell you ) gets a free book.
Sounds the go to me.
Cheers
Andrew

ps - memo Adlard Coles Limted - this offer is not exclusive to Alain. My services are available if required.

This was a community service announcement. Not self promotion. Cough !

I have to admit that I'm very disappointed by the very negative comments my thread receives on this forum..

When reading the reason of this forum, I had read:

A book related forum where you can discuss and recommend nautical books to fellow forum members ..

I did recommend a nautical book " THE COMPLETE ANCHORING HANDBOOK " to fellow forum members.. that, only to receive negative comments from people that never have open even the first page!..

and I'm asking myself the question why??
1° - is a ' racist ' reason as I'm not British??
2° - is it just because I'm one of the co-authors of this book??
3° - is is for personal reasons as you may have some personal reasons to be against myself??

Any comment ABOUT THE BOOK , either negative or positive will be very constructive, but none of those negative comments about anything..

We are much kinder than some on other forums where Alain also did some advertising - I liked the ring of reality behind the comment of one poster along the lines of 256 pages on anchoring! I was expecting a leaflet. How hard is it really? (ex www.crew.org.nz).

So, one of the reason is “commercial posting”, or “self promotion”?? But the reason of this specialised forum is A book related forum where you can recommend nautical books to fellow forum members ..
And who, more than the author, could be in a good position to recommend nautical books to fellow forum members ?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

No I don’t find this comment unkind.. at least for me.. It means that the man who wrote that, has not enough knowledge on the subject to fill a leaflet.. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Again somebody who criticise the book without having read one single page!…
