The Chandlers - More depressing revelations!

I know this subject has been well discussed in other threads. However, this story http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1235205/Bob-bungler-Ainsworth-blew-TWO-chances-save-couple-held-pirates.html makes it even more depressing.
Newspapers! Now even that is a paradox as they don't report actual factual news - they are in the entertainment business, hence the varying element of guess work, fiction and general make believe.

Anyway down in that part of the world, sending in armed troops to attempt a rescue is a sure way to get the kidnap victims killed. Red Tops and tabloids have no brains, no intellect, and they are not even soft and absorbant, so quite useless really.

Latest according to the Times is that the Chandlers have called to say they are still OK and would like the government to do something soon.

Also it quotes the MOD as saying:
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) yesterday admitted that Bob Ainsworth, the defence secretary, had authorised a Royal Marine unit that witnessed the kidnapping to intervene. But it said it was the ship’s commander who decided it was unsafe to attempt a rescue.

The RFA Wave Knight was within 50 yards of the pirates and had a marine unit and a Merlin helicopter aboard. But Sir Mark Stanhope, the first sea lord, claimed the ship did not have the expertise required for a hostage rescue.

An MoD spokesman defended the failure to intervene. “It was entirely proper for those responsible for carrying out the operation to make tactical level decisions,” he said.

“Those responsible for carrying out the operation had to balance capabilities and possible actions against the risk to life.”

Seems like the blame is shifting again!
