The Azores - getting there

May to July is the best time. You'll get northerlies at first as you move off the coast of Portugal, these will fade about half way and be replaced by west or south-west winds. But you could be becalmed in the Azores High for a while.

I would aim for Ponta Delgarda on Sao Miguel first, and cruise the other islands from there.

The Azores are out of the main hurricane zone but sometimes hit by tail-ends between mid-August and October. They are also subject to north atlantic storms in the winter months.

I thought of going this summer and thought it was about 900 miles from Gib?
i thought it was about 1250 from falmouth?
