What is all this fuss about 'ashes'?
I don't have an open fireplace in my house, so I don't get any ashes.
I know really: you are getting all excited about a silly game of cricket. So what, Australia has lost a prize that the English Cricket board hasn't been able to win legitimately for 18 years, so they have convinced everyone that the pot in which these 'ashes' are kept is so fragile that it can't be moved. So the pot can't be moved from where ever it is kept in England.
So.... big deal. The world is entering a competition it can't win. Because if the Australians actually do defeat the home team, so what? They can't take home the prize, because the Brits have convinced everyone that to do so would destroy the pot and its contents.
Cool
People enter a contest that they can't win! even when England loose the actual contest, the so-called winners can't take home the prize. We have convinced them that they are not capable of looking after it.
WE CAN'T LOOSE!
So why is everyone so excited?
The worst case scenario is that somebody will realise that in this day and age; they could win the Ashes AND TAKE THEM HOME- AWAY FROM ENGLAND!
Now that would be a disaster. It would rewrite the parameters the rest of the world uses to judge the standards of fairplay!
That we have written in our own favour!
Congratullations.. you won. Although I do agree with Becky .. she is right.
Now we do not like being beaten at anything , however acknowledge you had a better team, plus you played well.
Didnt see John Morris in the crowd yesterday.. looked everywhere as the camera panned the stands. There was one overweight, bald, well primed , well dressed g'man in the crowd, could it have been him .???

Don't know what the line about overweight....g'man was all about! I did post our picture in the lounge here
Cricket is a a fine game that just needs a little understanding. Steven Fry made a comment this morning - start to understand the game and you can realise that an hour without a run being scored can still have you on the edge of your seat. Like Collingwood batting an hour or more for ten runs yesterday. Won't make any record books, but he played his part in ensuring that England won the ashes, and it was gripping stuff to watch.
