I can't imagine you as anything other than No Regrets. Congrats on the new boat. Finally a proper one - two engines on shafts and no coffee grinder. ;)


Are you sure you don't want a survey? Osmosis is not the only problem a boat can have.
 
You're right of course, but the boat was thoroughly checked by the Broker concerned, as he took it in Part exchange. I have implicit trust...

Naturally things can go wrong, but I seem to have a good time with mechanical objects, because I look after them, and understand the little darlings :):p

It's your decision and I'm sure you will take responsibility for it. Rarely, if ever, has a boat sunk due to osmosis. At that age, however, I would want to be carrying out an early inspection of skin fittings, valves and clips which do fail without visible evidence that they are on the verge of terminal corrosion.

You seem to be getting a fair amount of boat for the money, John. Enjoy.
 
The osmosis is something I'm aware of, and she's coming out for a good service, hull polish and anti foul during the first three or four months of next year, along with a little drying out.

Mechanically, she had £7k spent at Brooms (ironic...) having any issues down below attended to, such as anodes, rudders, cutlass bearings etc.

Can't do a lot more than that, and of course constant attention!!

Strangely not all of them. Saga didn't for me, but in order to get the 'agreed value' in the event of total loss I did need a survey and valuation.
My boat is a 1980 vintage.

The 2009 survey was OK for NavGen. Premium £255 at annual rate, less than the Broom, and that includes Coastal, which wasn't included last year! :eek:

You're right though Phil, some companies want a fresh survey. those were the ones I didn't consider :D

Surveys are so full of holes and disclaimers, they are not worth a toss IMHO. I didn't have one on No Regrets either. Three years on, and there was only one blister, and no issues whatsoever.

A good surveyor should be able to find enough faults with a boat to get at least the cost of the survey back though.

Even though NC was not 5 years old when we bought her the survey more than paid for itself with the things it picked up. She was a stock boat so anything it picked up was fixed FOC but had we had to foot the bill for those items the bill would have run into the thousands. In our opinion it was £400 (including lift out) well spent.
