Is there a web site that one can watch (even withn a time delay) the races?

Or are we going to have to pay through the nose to watch?

Is this the correct forum to post about/discuss the America's Cup?

In the Telegraph today it was stated that there would be only three races (best of 3), 20 miles off shore, boats too big to get in shot unless close together, so very little coverage, no tv contracts yet, no provision for live internet access.

It seems their stupidity is ensuring low levels of interest, few sponsors, no spectators. What a waste.

From the AC33 Website:

LIVE VIDEO STREAMING
For the first time in the history of the America's Cup, races will be broadcast live free of charge on www.americascup.com. Video feed will be supplemented (in French and Spanish) with a Live Ticker animated by the best sailing experts

Err, it was always going to be a best of 3 as that is the Deed of Gift rules. 20 miles offshore is the limit of the race area, not the start, live internet coverage see previous post, dunno about the rest of your comments but M. Sheahan reckons it is all happening in Valencia and having been there last time I would tend to agree with him.

True, but you are forgetting the personalities involved. Despite what the teams may say in public, this is all about ego, and Larry E has one of the biggest on the planet.

They really don't care about sponsors, spectators, the public, the press or anyone else. To them that is just noise. They just want to win for themselves, and as they are essentially paying for it, I for one, am happy to let them get on with it any way they like.

Here are a few links that might be useful for you. The official site also says that it will be on Sky but I havent seen any other news or schedules for that.

Racing starts Monday morning.

Still the biggest waste of money, lawyer approved circus in town.

I used to have an interest in it, but its not about yacht racing any more is it, its a who thinks he has the biggest willy and bank balance. The Americas cup has done nothing but prove to the public that yachting is elitist and out of reach to 99% of the population. All the legal s^$t has ruined what was once an entertaining event. I wouldn't care if it all just stopped and never happened again.

Either that or make them race in 'real' yachts that will not break in a sea or more than 15kts of wind around a 15+ mile course only stopping if the wind gets above 45kts at start time. It'll start getting interesting again then.

I disagree entirely thats its not an entertaining event.
I was lucky enought to spend a few days at the last AC in Valencia with many thousands of other spectators and I have to say it was one of the most exciting sports events I've been to - more so than a F1 at Silverstone.
Don't compare it with the miserable facilities put on at Southampton or Portsmouth for the Volvo Race; at Valencia the spectators really are part of the event and are well catered for.
I'll be out there for the second and posible third race next week, can't wait.

Hmm, I thought that it was best of five races, IE a minimum of three(3) races?

Stemming from the America's Cup September 28 to October 4, 1901 off New York, United States Columbia races against Shamrock II in the best of five race series.

Seems like a lot of racing yachtsmen are quietly drifting off in the direction of Valencia.
What is the nautical equivalent to "Must go to my grandmother's funeral"? (A lot of grandmothers must have expired each year just before the Goodwood Revival meetings......

It is going to be a max of three races, I was in Valencia on Tuesday lunch time, you would not think anything was going to happen, there was a TV crew setting some gear up and that was it. No big screens up, no display stands, no exhibition, de nada.

Best of luck to Alinghi, I really hope they thrash (2 - 0) the Americans.
