Just like to point out to you all, especially the Hobbit (yes I've seen the film and know where they come from), that the Americas cup was never really lost by England. The first race was around the Isle of Wight in the late 1900s and the American boat went inside Bembridge ledge when it should have gone outside but us gallant Brits let them have it anyway and they cheated and colluded ever after to keep it. Hence the expression that Britannia rules the waves but America waves the rules. Which came about when the US boat on port tack put Tommy Sopwiths boat about and then the protest was declined.
It seems that that the rabid desire for the damn thing remains unabated.
Howabout we ask nicely to have it back and then start all over again??
They built a replica of the America in the 1960's to celebrate the centenary of the famous race. I remember being told, by someone who worked for Southern Television, that they had some footage of her sailing off the IOW when she came to the UK for a commemorative trip. I wonder if it's still around. Apparently it was shot in colour (expensive in those days) so they must have intended to keep it for posterity.
Whatever you say about behind the scenes manouvering the fact remains that TNZ were beaten on the water through their own inept tactical errors in spite of having a faster boat and I do wonder if your attempting to distract people from the real reasons TNZ failed.

And so we see ladies and gentlemen, the deep seated, if not unlovable, personality flaws that turn the All Black's into losers when it matters.

Judders - I'll now take all the wind out of your sails by pointing out that I am in fact British, born and bred and sailed in the UK for the first 35 yrs of my life and only moved out to NZ 3 yrs ago. Passionate about my sailing and adopted ETNZ as my team of choice for obvious reasons.
If you are going to make remarks about the personality of forum posters then I suggest you check your facts so that you write in an informed way. Your lack of knowledge of the true situation renders your comments and opinions invalid and not worth the screen they are written on.
I was tempted to point that out, but in fairness, newbie posters won't know those details, and even many forumites with years under their belt might not know that either. There is no easy way to check your nationality or history of posting, unless they've been following it for years.
True. But it goes to show that for an argument to hold water it needs to be fundamentally sound and not based on nationalisitic prejudices like Judders. Otherwise it all unravels in the space of a few new facts which should not otherwise affect things.
Oh lighten up. I remember your Nationality from a thread about your avatar some weeks ago, but that needn't get in the way of a wee bit of light hearted Kiwibashing need it?
Its a shame that this post has developed so much emotion, particulary from people who don't understand or care about the Auld Mug, unfortunatly Rob, there are always people on the forum whose sole aim in life appears to be to have a go through meduims such as this forum.
there is no doubt about it that the America's Cup is becoming the Alinghi Cup, and Alinghi's main goal appears to be how much money and prestige they can get for Bertarelli and his team. Its possible that the man himself does not know all thats going on.
As a Brit i am proud to be so, while disapointed that we were not there this time, I supported the last GBR challenge by supplying all of their CAD drafting software for free, and we knew they could never win, but atleast we were there, given the chance I will do so again for the new challenge, but I am realistic in what they are likely to achive, mid placed in the LV (assuming LV are still there).
i think your main point was as accurate as any regarding what appears to be the new world order in Yachtings ultimate development arena the "Alinghi Cup" (ex America's Cup).

Well honestly, do you really expect GB to put together a credible challenge???!!!
Maybe dust down Peter de Savary and have another go!
