The adverts on this forum are so pointless.

I haven't used google search for months. I blocked google.com in the computers hosts.txt file so the computer can't actually go to google. Cast your mind back a few years and the adverts on the search results page where with a highlighted shading, then it got more subtle and now there is barely a faint indication that nearly the whole page of results are ads. Its not a genuine sincere effort to give you the best result anymore. Its all either commercially or politically driven suggestions, so whats the point of using google. I can use Brave browser with uBlock origin extension and see zero ads but I also use Edge browser for some sites allowing all the cookies etc and don't mind allowing adverts on some sites which rely on that revenue. But it seems so counter productive when the adverts are for things I've already bought. So, sorry YBW but I'm blocking them now.
 
It is very clear that Google is pulling strings behind the scenes.

Same search on my work pc and my private pc returns different results.

Work pc administered by work IT allowing stuff that I block/prevent on my own plus a lot of private oriented web use is done on the private only under the filters and stuff I imposed.

No Farcebook, Twitter, Twatter, TixTox, Snapchat, Whatsapp, Insta etc. activity on any of them.

Just wanted to share the observation that Duckduck has improved notably.
While a search engine on Windows it actually is a browser for Android which works nicely.

I enrolled as beta tester for a new feature called App Tracking Protection, where trackers from all apps (!) on the phone are blocked and reported.

After a few minutes of running (I admittedly started a bunch of apps to check), it blocked bunches of trackers. Google tried to collect 34 data and something called Functional Software wanted 22.. all blocked by the new feature. I'd didn't use Google specifically but being the OS they fish all they can anyway. Until now ?

Quite interesting, me thinks.

Google being the OS seems like the biggest problem. I'm stuck with Apple until an alternative comes along. They seem to be selling themselves on privacy to encourage people over from android, not that I'm overly trusting any big tech companies on that one.

I had problems with this platform since YBO chanced it some years ago, and found on my ape iPad it worst then any other , since I used duck duck on android tablets I found its improved 10 folds
 
I use DuckDuckGo browser on my iPhone and hadn’t realised that this forum had adverts-I don’t see any. I’ve never gone back to google searching as DDG always finds me something useful.
DDG on my Mac gives me a choice of having ads or not, as well as blocking trackers. Their disposable email addresses are also very handy.

Have you heard of cookies? You know you can delete them and block them. No cookies, no browser memory, no ads based on out of date browsing.

Cookies can be essential for some sites to function correctly so I have one browser set to allow them. I do allow adverts on some sites as they pay the bills. It makes no difference to the site if the adverts are tailored by cookies or not (though maybe they get paid more for clicks not just presenting adverts) I was merely commenting that the business model of tracking me at a site where I bought something then following me around the internet promoting the thing I already bought is utterly rubbish. Until they can figure out who bought already and who was just thinking about it they really should not use this method. I started this a month ago and right now the adverts are still for an Eve mattress which arrived weeks ago and is so uncomfortable I'm about to return it. How much of the money I gave them has since and will continue to be wasted on adverts?
