That NE Wind.

I went down to Walton on Friday in order to antifoul and it was blowing nigh on 30 knots. I reckoned that I would end up with more af than the boat and gave up in disgust.

Its looking good for next weekend and then its back again. :(
I came out from The Crouch last Friday (9th June) on my way back to Bradwell via the Swin Spitway. That course was straight into the wind and some serious rolling waves that were stopping the boat (Sadler 26) dead in the water. The only way was to put on a lot of engine power to punch through the waves and get extremely wet. It was 2 hours to get through The Swallowtail and out to the Swin buoy and turn north after which it was a great sail. Oddly, I didn't see many others out!

Same on Saturday, although winds were lighter so perhaps not quite so choppy. Quite good fun in a way, although I think the 2 guys fishing from an inflatable dingy must be really, really keen on fishing, I wouldn't have sat there all day. Nice down wind sail on the way back up the river. Quite a few boats sailing off the mouth of the Crouch or heading up.

Having seen this thread and checked the forecast we grabbed the opportunity for a trip round to the Orwell over the weekend and very pleasant it was too. First time using the ‘new’ north channel at the mouth of the Deben which proved to be fairly straightforward.

Only issue we had was air ingress into the port engine primary filters that I spotted as we were leaving for the trip back. No spare gaskets or O-rings so I couldn’t sort it. Given the relatively benign conditions we decided to run back on one engine with the port engine available for short periods if required - it wasn’t until we got back to the marina when it ran fine to get us back into our berth. I guess I know what I will be doing next weekend!

I went out for a quiet sail on Tuesday with a forecast of +/- 10 knots wind and it blew up to 20, giving us a good chance to check the boat. At least, I think it was 20 because the wind vane has decided to self-destruct, which looks like an expensive job.
