Thames Valley Rally

[ QUOTE ]
A quick trip to John Lewis today has procured a new Blazer, White shirt and natty tie for myself, and a new Dress for Mrs 'NR' for Sunday evening.

Knowing how exacting the Boating fraternity is about dress code, I trust this will pass muster /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I now have coverage at work on Saturday, so should be leaving T&K by 3PM

I can't imagine having power at the moorings, but will a Honda suitcase genny be acceptable at reasonable times?

[/ QUOTE ]

The dress code there is just smart casual except for Judges who wear their Reefer, hat and usually whites. Gennies are quite acceptable as you state... at reasonable times.

Sunday night is different though isn't it?

Please say it is...I blew the price of reconditioning my Propex central heating in John Lewis /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I don't wear suits, so (Amazingly) don't own a suit!

So I suppose a Blazer is quite versatile for other things, such as Ashmount the following week /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Yes, never seen a suit at the Rally, many blazers though on Sunday night.
Generator needs to be kept as quiet as possible and at not unsociable hours. Just have a chat to your neighbours if you're concerned.

You are correct on your assumption of no power but "suitcase" style generators shouldn't be a problem during the day. Don't forget if you do the sail past or boat handling on Sunday you get a chance to charge the batteries and make some hot water as a nice side effect.

Darren.

Yes I have it. It wasn't as big or unmanageable as I was expecting otherwise I'd have got it earlier! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm excited! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have a boot full of Tender, Outboard, Genny, large coolbox full of beer and food, and a nice smart boaty outfit for Sunday night....

Have I missed anything? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We're leaving at midday tomorrow, so should be sailing by 2pm towards Henley.

Damnit...I knew there was something missing from the boot.

Where is the Outboard going to go now, there's not room for both of them? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

We're back!

Firstly, I would like to thank both Bray Cruiser Club and the YBW forum members who extended the kind invitation to the rally, and made us feel so very welcome.

This was our first boat event, so we didn't know what to expect, but from when we first called Jaws (Andy) from Henley bridge to enquire about berthing everybody was friendly and helpful at the very least.

We rafted up to 'Carli' another B25, and met Paul and the family, and enjoyed introductions to other members, Brayman, Apollo, Jaws and a few others, all top people in every way, and a first night with the Hog Roast.

Sunday morning started with the Boat handling, an awesome sight to see, with 45' Brooms et al being manoevred to within an inch of the desired spot, synchronised rope throwing, diplays of correctly tethering the beast including Springs, rafting and dinghy recovery.

The Pimms party accompanied by a superb Brass band, anniversary cake, and after lunch, time for a quick polish ready for the Sunday afternoon sailpast, an excellent show of participating boats, and spectacular display for the footpath inhabitants I'm sure!

The Sunday evening presentation with more lovely food and company was the icing on the cake, and by Monday morning, along came the rain, to herald the return journey 2 1/2 hours upstream to Reading.

Here's some photos.

I cannot recommend events like this to any of you who haven't been before. The organisation is impeccable, and the welcome you'll get from every Boat owner is really quite touching. Don't hesitate, just get booked in.

Once again, a huge Thank you to everyone we met, and made it possible. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Glad it all went well and thanks for posting all those pictures for us poor people who couldn't get there. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

We had a drink to absent friends.

Mind you, we had a drink to a lot of other things, but missed you all the same!

We did wonder how on earth you would have found us if we were away from the Birchwoods!

Next time perhaps? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I'm assuming thats a typo as it doesn't quite fit in with the rest of your post, was good to meet you and glad to here you had a good time.

Perhaps you could enter the boat handling next time and show them all how it should be done. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

No, he's right. Drinking, Drunks staggering all over the towpath, smoky Diesels running all night, Robo's shouting abuse.....

And that's just the Birchwood moorings /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

We were both thinking about the boat handling, but have you ever tried making a Birchwood (On shaft) go astern with any reasoned success?

And we didn't have enough cleats either. You need hundreds of cleats for these events, at least 1km of rope, 400bhp, twin engines..... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm Ebaying for cleats as we speak.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
