Thames to be closed at Windsor?

Yes, a really clever idea...

It ignores the fact that there are three Marinas in that stretch of the river, and rips up the right of navigation.

And what will they do about the residential boats?

I look forward to organising a protest rally.

I suggest we all leave our respective Marina's at the same time and head to the Windsor reach for a party.

May I suggest we use the 'Upper Thames Birchwood Massive' as an organisational front :)

And Paul, make sure you have Fuel this time eh? LOL

Lets all march on Westminster we can gather supporters as we go. Possibly we can start at Jarrow. Just imagine thousands of us waving our Boathooks or Garmins chanting theme songs. Hopefully Rod Stewart will be at the forefront singing "we are sailing" maybe even Her Majesty the Queen carrying a banner with "Former Broom owner" on it.
What a moving sight we would be as people join us from every village and town we pass through.

His leg has fallen off in mid dive

Cash is being spent to renovate the Bow Creek lock area and allegedly provide decent access for leisure boats to the Lea navigation, this runs right through the centre of the Olympic site.
Hope to go there myself if at all possible.

The Olympic area is to be closed to navigation (so we're told) during the Olympics, so the proposal to restrict the Thames has some logic.

The canal system doesn't have a public right of navigation, so the rules are different.

A good way to definately ensure there is no traffic on that stretch, would be to divert the main flow down the Jubilee river, then allow the Bray to windsor stretch to run dry.
Then everybody in Bray and Windsor marinas will be able to have a free mid-season scrub!

Simples.. shall I suggest it?

By doing this the EA could make money by renting out stretches of dried river bed to Metal Detectorists.

Andrew Graham, of the Environment Agency, told BBC Radio Berkshire that closure of the river was just one of "many options" under consideration.
He said LOCOG were planning to bring spectators to Dorney Lake across a bridge from Windsor Racecourse, which could mean closing the River Thames.
He said: "There is a basic right of navigation along the Thames, but the Environment Agency has powers to temporarily close the river.

Hmmm ..... another case of 'A Bridge Too Far' ?

A LOCOG spokesperson said: "We have had preliminary discussions with the Environment Agency about a range of traffic management measures on the Thames at Games time.
"We are looking at a number of options, closure is one option, but by no means the only one.
"We will be submitting a planning application for all the works and arrangements next year, and will be doing pre-planning consultation with the Environment Agency and other organisations on the full detail of our plans prior to this.
"At this stage it is too early to go into the detail of our proposals for the Thames."

Hmmmm ..... submitting a planning application in 2010 for significant works in time for 2012? Well on top of everything, then, eh chaps?
