It has been widely publicised!

By the time we get back from furrin parts, Thames will be no more and south of the Blackwater will be covered by Dover, North of there, Inc the Blackwater, by Humber

That's correct. Details are in our new ECP edition. Existing phone numbers will work for some time to come although I understand that eventually there will be new ones. Don't worry if you call the 'wrong' CG station on VHF, someone will answer, be it Dover or Humber, or perhaps the new Ops Centre, altho I don't know what call-sign the latter will use.

I'm struggling to remember where I read the details of the dividing line twixt Dover and Humber. Some book or other I bought the latest edition of the other day :p

I picked up an informative document in the office at Titchmarsh at the weekend, amongst other things it said that existing MMSI numbers the "preferred means of contact" for non urgent calls, would remain the same, and that if calling on Ch 16 to still call "Thames Coastguard". It also said that eventually there would be a national telephone number for all CG enquiries.

All the aerials will still be in use, hence the coverage. Not heard anything to suggest that the MSI broadcasts schedule will change.

The CG letter about Thames arrived at ECP Towers this afternoon and you can read it (all the right way up) via the News section of our home page.

The last scheduled broadcast will be MSI at 1610 on the 4th June if all goes to plan.

The area North of the Deben will be controlled primarily by Humber Coastguard and South of the Deben will be looked after by the NMOC at Fareham until at least December when Dover Coastguard are added to the national network.

The call sign South of the Deben will remain as Thames Coastguard for the time being.

Radio sites, Volunteer Coastguard Teams and RNLI resources are remaining as now. The helicopter base at Wattisham is closing in July and the area will be covered by a new base at Lydd in Kent.

The loss of the highly professional, calm and patient team at Walton on the Naze will be greatly missed. It will take a long time for the New teams to gain the "local" knowledge that currently exists. Let's hope this doesn't end in any tragedies.

I think we all should be saying a big thank you to all the team at Walton that are about to lose their jobs for being there for us if we needed them.

Absolute +1 from me
