Thailand video number 2

Nice video Henry, do Easy-jet fly there ?
How does it compare to Minehead ? still Redcoats ?

Only when the pilot gets very lost.

Funny you should ask about Butlins. The good lady wife and I were saying just yesterday how much like Bognor Regis this place feels like. All they need is a doughnut machine, Saga Rally and bingo.

I've filled out a comment card and handed it into reception. Fingers crossed for the next visit.

Henry :)

Pro stuff, Henry!

I can imagine how much extra effort it takes to shoot with a tripod and actually plan what you are going to shoot beforehand. Probably quite rewarding also as you take time to think the viewpoints, DoF's, etc. better and get those fantastic results. Well done! The owner of the resort must be pleased.

May I enquire what lense you were using? What was the song you were originally using?

It actually isn't difficult. You have an eye for an image, so you just need to work out how to get movement in there as a third dimension.

I used a variety of lenses and that's the real beauty of filming with a DSLR camera. I had from 10mm to 300mm available across 3 lenses. A camcorder starts quite zoomed in by comparison so wide angle landscapes or interior shots aren't available.

The original track? Forever lost in the mists of time I'm afraid. I won't do EMI the benefit of a recommendation. For people like you and I most record companies have come to a sensible solution, either they get revenue from google ads or else they put a link up to buy the song. They spend millions on pop videos to promote records, we do it for free ! I took the track out to Thailand specifically for this purpose. I have it on in the car whilst driving to the boat and copied the CD into the mac prior to departure.

The real star of the show is iMovies. A joy to work with and child's play.

Great video, but am I missing something here, should YBW not get royalties for blatant advertising?

I am making the video as a gift to the hotel owner hence their details at the end. It was not intended to advertise them on here. I posted it knowing there are several other people on the forum interested in making videos at the moment and also because it features an interesting cruising ground all be it one some distance from the UK.

With regards the video making this was my first use of a method quite different to the usual camcorder and as such of particular interest to us sad hobbyists.

If it really does concern you I will pull the video. Obviously I have nothing personal to gain from the hotel getting a mention.

Pah, ignore him. Keep posting them, they're fantastic.

I bought a Canon 350D about 6 or 7 years ago and have never been 100 percent happy with it.
At that time. I bought three lenses - all zooms
The main one being 28mm - 135mm with image stabiliser - never really very happy with this.
For close work - a EFS 10mm - 22mm - no stabiliser but I like this lens
And for long distance I bought a Sigma 80mm - 400mm with stabiliser
None of the lenses go lower than f3.5 so nothing very professional

Last summer I treated myself to a new camera body and selected the Canon 600D
I was quite pleased with it so I bought a new lens for our trip to Thailand.
The old 28-135 is never one thing or the other - and I always had trouble taking nearer objects - buildings etc.
So I chose the EFS 15mm to 85mm with image stabiliser - same range as my EFS 10-22 that I like.

I feel a bit like "Trigger and his broom" - it's still the same old camera - "only one new body and one new lens!!"

The result is that this lens stays on the camera all the time and I'm now getting results that I'm happy with. I guess it's mainly that technology has moved on so far over the last few years.

Anyway, most will know that the 600D also does video quite well and I've been experimenting.

As Henry says, it's vital to keep the camera still - so a tripod is very important to get the best out of it but you can get some quire acceptable results without.

So, here's an excuse to put some more Thailand videos on here.
They are just clips - I hope to string them all together into a video sometime but we are off to the boat tomorrow for New Years Eve so it will have to wait for one of those cold dark evenings when we are back.

Remember - SWMBO wanted a holiday without boats - shame really.

And the guy in this one shows just how to wear a life jacket.
Obvious isn't it - its a sunshade.

I'm afraid I have the artistic ability of a pea so nowhere as good as Henry's polished video.

Ride of the Valkyries, nice and loud. Shall we dance......

Is it just me or are those clips straight out of Apocalypse Now. "Outstanding red team, get you a case of beer for that one".

They work really well because the boat is so smooth. You could almost have set up a little tripod and let the horizon change with the turn of the boat helicopter style. You get a great sense of speed and I'm loving the dude sat on the bow.

No boats you say, ah well........

Henry :)

Nice Videos Hurricane - Not been out to Thai for 3 years now - I think me and swmbo need to re-vist next year sometime :D

With Regards to Camera's I use a EOS 50D Cannon with the following Cannon Lenses a EFS 10-22mm a EF 24-105mm image stabiliser lense and a EF 70-300mm image stabiliser lense.

Great bit off kit but I need time to learn to use it properly as always use auto mode :( I am starting to use the functions at long last by taking shots whilst using the boat :D

Only problem with all this great kit is when lugging around the holdall and all the lenses it is a lot of weight to constantly carry around which I found especially frustrating whilst on hols in Thai last time

I trust you and your good lady enjoy the new year festivities ;)

Those shots look very high quality ones and the difference to shots shot with a traditional camcorder is obvious (as is to be expected with high quality lenses and almost double the bitrate).

Apart from a few quick tests I haven't really explored the possibilities yet. My lens kit comprises of two lenses: a 24-70 f2.8 and a 70-200 f4. While the first is a very versatile lens, it's not stabilized which is a big minus. My preconception is that even when using a tripod, image stabilization comes in useful on most situations. I really need to do some more testing.

Henry, fantastic vid, and great soundtrack. Looked like a professional promo for the resort to me!

We have tried a bit of vid in Kenya with SWMBO's 500D, and not too successful with panning and zoom. Your approach to set up and maintain the angle works brilliantly, so thanks for the tip.

Thanks again.
